Tightening Handpole on a Kaw 750sx

Just currious if there's any tricks to this... looks like I have to remove the mount from the hull (4 bolts on inside of hull above gas tank) in order to get access to the bolt? Is this right or is there something I'm missing here?

yes, remove the bolts. while you have them off get some 1.5 or 2" flatwashers for the re-install. this will keep the cracking to a minimum.

Put the flatwashers against the plastic bushing so that the hex-heads on the bolts don't crack the plastic bushings?

Er...WHAT???
Put fender washers inside the hull, so the pole doesn't rip the bolts out. Do this if your hull doesn't already have a reinforcement plate inside. Newer 750's do.

Put new bushings in the pole to get rid of slop.
