Timing light

My timing light just quit, and I’m looking for a replacement to check the ignition timing on my Yamaha Superjet MX bikes, and high rpm kart motors

Most timing lights on the market wont work correctly, as they aren’t an inductive style light. Even then, it has to be an excellent quality component, or the sampling rate is too slow, and the light fizzles out while testing at high rpm. Does anybody have any recommendations; what do you guys use?

I use a Matco and not had that issue but don't check beyond about 7k. It has detachable leads but the connector inside the gun has come loose somehow and threading the leads on pushes the pins back up into the gun. That happened pretty quick after purchase, need to try and fix that.

Only ever used Snap On prior with out any issues

I just unplug the boot, lick my fingers, and count while trying to hold on.

Matco and snap on are both good for this use.
Harbor, talk to your Matco rep. Mine is awesome, and can usually pull strings, if needed. If not, I'd be glad to open her up and fix it for you.

Happy holidays people. Gotta go sight in the Barrett for when that sleigh goes by. Fresh venison for breakfast.........

^^^^ Did yours^^^ come in the yellow plastic blow molded case with 5 other testers (fuel pressure, vacuum, etc.)?
I have one also. (didn't want to mention non top brand poop that works)

Nah just bought it individually. Although I use their fuel pressure/vacuum gauge as well and it's a solid work horse. Should mention I have not tried the Actron light on a 2 stroke

I finally got to try it out today and ended up going back to the Innova light. I wasn't impressed.

The Innova light had much longer leads and it functioned right up to 5900 RPM where the Hella was sketchy after 5000.
