Freestyle Tips for first time backflip off of boat wake?

I have never attempted a backflip before on a ski. My cousins have a 23ft wakeboard boat that plows a huge wake. Is there any real technique other than arching your back and hanging on?

Prehop into the wake
Squat right before take-off - your ass needs to hang off the back, pole on the hood. Really pull it back. The ski needs to be vertical before it leaves the water.
After you leave the water, stand up, kick your legs out.
Throw your head back as hard as you can and spot your landing.
Arch your back and pull the pole to your chest.

What mods does the ski have?

Depends on the size of the wake and the ski setup. If you got power and it's a good wake, the flips will probably be better & higher without trim.

With power-limited setup, pulling the trim as you drop throttle in the pre-hop would probably be better.

Gonna be very difficult even with trim and good wake. Doable on a v-wake.
Go fast and get timing and technique down.

Check out my memorial day riding video in the pics & vids section. It has a bunch of flips off a wakeboard boat wake on a couple different skis, from a couple different view points. It might help you out.

And don't forget! Never give your ski the finger! :bad3:

Don't let go!!! If you know your not gonna make it, don't try an bail, the ski will crush you. Right Matt? Let the ski push you into the water instead of landing on you.

don't bail, I came out of my tray upside down. bilge switch bracket took a chunk out of my shin. bent the billet bracket! 3rd time out on my Q8. Hurts less if you stay with ski.
