Surfriding Tips for hucking it (while trying not to break your ski)

I'm so close to being ready to go for real this year. My footholds are glassed in, my foot straps will (hopefully) be here by the end of the week. Hydroturf should send my sheet early in the week. New steering cable coming and hopefully I don't screw up the quick steer mod. I have my limiting rope all mocked up now...still trying to figure out how I'm going to do my hood strap but I have an idea. I think I got my helmet picked out...http://shredready.shptron.com/p/standard-full-face

Got my superjet late last season, got out in some 7 footers once...it was amazing. I learned a few tricks...subs, riding backwards, almost broke my ankles on a nose stab with no holds. I haven't reinforced inside the engine compartment yet but I have the materials to do it and I plan on doing it the first time I pull my motor for any reason..

This year I intend to huck myself...Can I have some tips for avoiding breaking things????:lightning:

I THINK I got it all covered equipment wise. I'm SURE the first time I try to go upside down I'm going to straight up pancake my ski...anything you guys got as far as keeping my equipment safe I'm all ears.

Hucking will always put a lot of stress on a ski, ESPECIALLY learning how to huck. So, I know you don't want to hear this, but reinforce the ski ASAP! it's easier to reinforce and prevent damage than it is to fix any damage and then reinforce after.

Quality products, and a clean , dry engine bay. Scuff it up with sand paper and scotch brite pads. Gives the resin something to stick to. After that its like arts and crafts. Lol

I'm pretty terrified of pulling my motor...actually I'm terrified of going out looking for problems. lol

Pulling the motor is cake dude. I pulled mine bout every other ride last season, not by choice though lol. And for the OP just some big balls to actually 'huck' and go in 110% else if you hold back that's when you get hurt/broke

As far as balls I guess we'll see. I didn't have the mindset without straps or holds. Waiting on a few parts to get here and I'll be ready.

Don't mean to thread jack but how do you reinforce a ski? Rivet aluminum strips to it, or just ad a bunch more fiberglass?

for a sj: grind down ribs, fill bond line with thickened epoxy, prep sides with 60grit sandpaper and acetone, lay glass one the sides (amount varies based on riding style) i fliped the hull and filled the underside of the hood lip because thats where it cracks first. lay the glass all the way to the nose. i also reinforced the nose with 80oz of glass.

What is the purpose of filling the bondline? I thought resin alone does nothing structurally without glass. Is it just to make it easier for the glass to lay?

So your laying glass across a flat surface tying together your upper and lower deck. You don't want to have a big gap there, that will be a point of weakness and where the delamination would probably start.
