TL Flywheel magnet removal?

junkyardj

i just picked up a rad TL flywheel i like these flywheel's better then the msd ones because they are lighter and the bulk of the mass is in the center

my plan was to take out one of the magnets and run it with my dual channel system as ive seen many people have done. you can see by the pictures included (daughter pointing) that the msd has holes behind the mag so i guess you can just punch it out, any suggestions for the RAD?

im a big / lil hammer guy but i didnt want to mess it up as these are hard to come by

drill a small hole and drive it out?
if worried about balance do the same on the other side.
if you don't mind destroying it,just wack it with a chisel.magnets are brittle so it should fragment right up.

i was thinking of drilling, tapping and running a bolt threw it to pull the mag out but i was afraid it would just chip away

thanks for the help

Yes-the magnet should be re-usable.

Amputation is always the 1st thought I have. lol
I raced MX for nearly 30 years and over jumping ie flat landing and coming up short really puts a toll on your neck. When I finally gave up on bikes I divorced my chiropractor. lol

Hmmmmmm, im going to be doing this to my single channel MSD wheel here in a few weeks. I think the hole on the backside of the magnet is threaded, I havn't seen it but my multi-channel flywheel has threads. I am would like to keep the removed magnet intact and am affraid driving it out with a screw may fracture it.

I guess you just applied a little heat to the magnet area and it came right out? I may do this in conjunction with the screw to remove mine intact.

I know these can be bought through MSD if needed. I am sure McMaster would have something similar too.

i actually did that with a msd flywheel for a friend of mine last night

all i did was heat the sucker up and tap it out using the little hole behind the magnet (drill bit and hammer) come out really easy

if you need another magnet i got one here on my tool box for you free99

Cool, thanks for the offer. I doubt I will need it though.

I had my brother pick up an analog system for me three weeks ago, I need to go get it from him........ maybe this weekend.
