I think some more power helps, but you can have more power than you want to handle. I think like its been said above that having a good clean power curve helps you be able to use more power. Having a lightswitchy power curve sucks for flatwater and surf IMO. Its never there where you need it and when it does come on it just throws the boat out from under you.

i just built my kawi up a ton, i never really rode anything before last year when my boat was all stock except for a pipe. i went with bigger carbs, upped comp, aluminum flywheel, porting...etc. and i love the added power. i am always a fan of more power though....my ski has a pretty descent hit to it in the midrange, took a few minutes to get used to but its defiently better IMO to have more juice.

for examlpe if you have ever ridden an MX bike you get on a 250f and they pull descent, then you hop on a 450, and its like ******** that makes things so much easier...

Depends on what you're doing. I have an insanely overpowered FX1 made By Tricky1. It's nice to pass couches on glass, and gets bigger air than anything I've seen off 2ft stuff (waves or wakes). But... clean predictable power is nicer when encountering 4ftish stuff (depending on many things). IMO. I don't do tricks, but this machine has been the 1st I've ever had which I want LESS power sometimes.

If I were to pinn the throttle on many waves I'd end up landing upside down or worse.... when you're airtime gets past a few seconds, it's much more difficult to keep the angle you want to land at correct. Predictable power helps an old man like me there :)

That's what I thought... 20 tanks later, On small stuff, true for me... on `big stuff, less power=more air for me.

what a girl ...man up mofo hit that throttle

J/K fx1 is a bitch to handle on big surf well to me anywhere lol... and you can ride same amount of time as i do

The Mustang analogy may work very well for this. I see guys with all the time over powered cars at the drag strip. The cars are capable of 60’ times in the 1.8sec range on street tires, but the driver is running them to a 2.5-3 sec 60’. It’s purely the drivers ability to control the power of his car. I installed the driver mod years ago; unfortunately, I am still hunting the rider mod for my skis.

i still suck. but i agree with the guys who just like that arm wrenching power. it puts a smile on my face too. IMO, if u think u are really gonna stick with any sport, skip the middle man so to speak and get something that u wont get bored with after 3 months.

hahaaa seriously, if you guys want to feel some POP, go ride a 450f....it will haunt your dreams:bigeyes:

ive tried two strokers a few months ago that were retarded. board members 2nd nature and crammit 442 invited me to ride with them. i almost wish i wouldnt have ridden one. its kind of like drugs it only takes one time to want more and more.cant wait to try some other skis at alatoona ride.

I rode a 10mm stroked motor that was hand build by Martin Shaub(sp) in Europe... the cases, cylinders were cut by him out of billet aluminum... The hull was a Lightweight-DE $12k carbon hull... I personally thought it was unridable in the surf... I could barely do a roll

I might be changing my story after I get my ski dialed in but I say get that huge ass motor and learn how to ride it. I kinda done it that way. I went from a pipe and head on my old ski to a 850cc ADA motor in this ski. I can't ride it worth crap right now. It was so smooth and everything just flowed. This is like a noob learning how to drive a clutch I am on and off of the throtle falling over in turns all sorts of noob stuff... BUT in a few weeks I will get the hang of all this power and it will be back to normal I will just be praticing different tricks.

So get that motor you dream about and learn how to ride it. JMHO

Can't wait to see how this goes. :haha: :haha:

Power is fun to have but for what point if you cant control. Power doesnt make you any better at tricks.

You'll notice 9/10 people with really crazy engines are rec riders and just like the power for jumping around and such, because they arent so much into learning to freestyle. Thats fine and all, but if your wanting to freestyle....build as you go, unless you just run across a damn good deal.

I got a little carried away on my mods this year while my motor was apart....i didnt really NEED it....but while it was getting a complete rebuild i needed too. I also wanted a little more grunt esp for these new tricks im working on.

SKILL is ALWAYS better then power.

The added power will help you quite a bit. You would not believe how some added grunt makes tricks come around.
