To port, or not to port? That is the question.

What are the pros and cons of cylinder porting besides the price? I'm thinking of having my 701 61x/62t that I'm building ported, but not 100% sure. I ride the mainly in the surf. I want some hard low end punch for flat water tricks too. Would I have to give up ICW runs at top speed with a ported engine? I'm going to run a D cut plate vise a Riva groovy, so I may not be going anywhere at top speed.

Just wanting some feed back from some people that are running ported cases and cylinders.

I do both with my setup. Porting doesn't mean you can't go WOT.

How much more power is a "pro" port job going to give you, mine hits pretty dam hard, I'm not sure what they charge but I paid 25$ for a used port kit and did it myself. Best $/hp I've spent!!

I've tried both home-ported and pro-ported. (I ported 8 cylinders myself).
My Jetworks motor beats any of my home-ported motors :).

Thanks!!!! I will port then. I was going considering a home port, but my flex attachment and tool is possibly messed up and then I will be buying bits, that stuff adds up. I'm broke till this summer until I can afford cylinders and sell some of my other stuff. I can only buy one thing under 100 bucks a paycheck at this time untill I have some more insight on the future. Carbon this payday... JSS next payday...

One more question... How much better is the perfomance with case porting as well?

Munki63, I got my hand pole awhile back too. This SN is gonna rock, I got a whole room full of parts just waiting for my return one day.

You need a good pipe and prop first. Porting does very little without these items working correctly.

You got that right. I have a 14/17 Solas impeller and a 14/18 Skat Trak impeller too, I am thinking of running the Solas repitched and blueprinted to whatever Impros advises and I also will be running a Wet Wolf freestly cone. I have thought about selling both my impellers and buying a Hooker. I bought a Mach 2 pipe and I am going to put it back on the market and get a new B pipe because used ones are so expensive. I just need various odds and ends such as some reeds, gaskets, and need to rejet my carbs/remove chokes ect ect, and talk to whoever ports the engine about dome sizes. I feel I'm going to correctly match this ski up pretty well by asking the people who port cylinders and impeller people about the recommend jets/domes/pitches as I'm not really savy with the in depth technical stuff like that. The impeller will be the last thing I do because plans can always change, such as my pipe.
This ski going to haul booty. I'm like a disgruntled employee as I've been on the 650 SJ in the surf for 3 years, and before that it was a Jammer , again in the surf. That's what I learned to ride on. And now it's time from some performance. I was under the influnce of coral from being marooned in Diego Garcia for 8 months and was going to sell it and build my R100... but I rode it one last time and was like WTF am I doing? I got to build a Super Duper Jet!! I will be back for good in a few months and hope to done by October with this ski.

PM 58vwragtop, I believe he has some porting templates. I was thinking of going with his, but I have to buy a new tool, bits, ect for it to go as planned. That stuff adds up.
