Too much cooling

I've read threads on this before...but wanted to get updated thoughts on this:

I tapped my pump with a 1/2" inside diameter (yes, ID) barb fitting. I planned on using this hole to run thru my engine. I'm going to use the stock hole (3/8 ID) to cool my pipe.

Now...water routing suggestions aside...is 1/2" cooling for the motor too much? I'm running a jetworks ported motor...eventually to go bigbore.

Yes, I can call Art, but I was thinking of this now and was wondering what you guys were thinking.

Thanks,
Joe

You know - if you don't do this right, you are at a very real risk of seizing that engine.
I WOULD talk to Art if I were you, instead of listening to a bunch of guys that didn't build the engine.

However: I run a Jetworks built bigbore and run "sort-of" dual cooling. One 3/8 line into the motor, one 3/8 line into the headpipe.
I have two outlets on the head, both restricted to 2mm each for water temps below 45 Deg F.
45-55 I run 3mm restrictors, 55 and above I run 4mm.

Don't run what I run before consulting with the builder of your engine.
You paid good money for the engine setup, why risk loosing power or seizing the engine by NOT going to the same builder for cooling setup advice?
It is part of entire engine performance setup.

Art knows best for his engines, but personally I do not see a problem with that. I run 1/2" cooling on my full limited sxr to my motor, and 3/8 for my dry pipe.

Is your thru hull fitting a 1/2" tube? If not, I wouldnt worry about it, because reducing to the 3/8" tube will more than likely take away any advantage of drilling your pump to use the 1/2" fitting. If it were 1/2" plumbing all the way through, it would be more beneficial.

My Limited is 1/2" plumbing all the way through my hull right up to my motor.

Hope this was helpful although the skis are a bit different. Same general concept. Good Luck

1/2 inch tube baby for cooling and 1/2 inch tube for trim...

Ah, makes sense!

Cooling is a big concern for me and my setup, because I run in water temps as low as 30 degrees.
