Actually, I've been meaning to do the same thing to an old Square hull.
I will need to replace my worsening RN hull eventually. If I already have a bottom deck laying around, I can justify getting a top deck much easier.

You know you may be onto something here... If it only took you 2 hours to remove the deck that is excellent! I typically spend about an hour removing turf, another 30-60 minutes cutting into the tray, and then hours doing the defoam. Then after all of that, I'll spend a full weekend and probably $30-$40 in fiberglass and resin to put the tray back and another $50-$70 in turf and padding. Granted if you wanted to put it back you'd spend $50 in glue to put the deck back on but still.

Sounds like if you wanted to defoam a ski with footholds, this is the best method but if don't have footholds already, it might be easier to just do the conventional method.

No but the real reason I'm doin this is I'm planning to buy a stunt hull kit and it's just practice for the real thing when I have do do it. I'd like not to walk in blind and mess stuff up!

Plus this one doin now won't be covered w turf ;)

keep me posted, I am planning on the same thing and have an SN hull laying arround with tray cut out and almost all defoamed , i am thinking christmas special top deck conversion.
