How do I know when it is time to rebuild the top end? My bone stock 2000 SJ still runs amazing (not down on power) but I don't want a piston to break and take out the entire engine, for example.
Do they typically run until they start to lose compression and power? It is not high hour (ridden a few times a year only for the past 10 years, real clean).
What is the basic process? I have new OEM pistons / rings. Have worked on a lot of 2 strokes just no ski engine work yet.
Pull the exhaust chamber and header from the engine.
Leave the carbs in place.
Can I leave the cylinder head on and pull the head/cylinder off the pistons?
So I need a base gasket and exhaust manifold gasket?
Also good practice to replace the wrist pin, bearing, shim plates next to the bearing?
