Super Jet Total loss in the salt water?

Im headed somewhere to ride a super jet in the ocean for a while. The skis are stock, Im bringing a b pipe. But I was also wondering if it made any sense to bring a total loss set up.

The one I have his analog. I was going to just run the p pipe for a while. Then think about finding a box for the total loss or just wiring the thing up very, very carefully.

Will it work with out "being a home for gremlins"? haha

Ive had nothing but bad luck with TL in salt water. I wouldn't recommend doing it unless you have a waterproof box. If not your TL system will be an actual Total Loss, lol.

Are you riding for a week or weekend with the total loss or are you planning to make this a dedicated surf ski? If it's just occasional salt water, I don't see any reason why total loss can't be run if setup properly. IMO setting up total loss doesn't mean just shrink wrapping the wires. It also means maintaining it and putting dielectric grease prior to a weekend of a surf riding. I've been running my old single channel total loss in salt water on occasion for years and it's completely open to the elements. I tried a waterproof enclosure once and condensation got inside which I believe to be worse since the system is never allowed to dry out but if you care for it and open it up after use, it's fine as well.

It's all in how an who sets it up. It's def doable, just need to take the preparations. If dedicated, prolonged salt use is what your gonna be doing, look into a water tight enclosure. Aircraftsalz had his setup in a sweet water tight box. Just takes time to ensure it's done the right way. Most of the Florida guys run total loss, an they ride all the time. I run TL but strictly freshwater, an my stuff is mounted exposed to a plate, never had an issue. Hit up Brian an thrust or JSS for a solution. TL when setup right is worth it's weight in gold X100.

There is absolutely no issue running the above mentioned analog tl in salt water! Back in the day when jetskis were being raced, Riva would mount the ECU piggyback towards the starboard side of the E-box and use the ( internal) oem coil. No fuss, no muss, no saltwater issues! Worked well for me for years on two skis. Eventually the salt water would corrode the wiring (yes, right through the insulation) since MSD had not seen it fit to use marine grade (tinned) wiring. That however takes years! Another weak link noted was the area were the potting material meets the cast ECU housing, seems water would enter the circuitry if the powdercoat paint would delaminate between the housing and the potting material (aluminum requires pretreatment prior to paint application).
The later dual channel units solved those issues because water may enter at the dip switch or cable entry area, long before that. That is where the need for an enclosure comes from. Another issue in salt are the exposed coils which when covered with salt water have a light show of their own. Current work arounds for that are sealing them too or using coils that are not quite as powerful (couch coils).
I've used the analog system in salt even with the MSD dual coil and not had a problem. Back then however skis were used for jumping waves not submarines.
