Freestyle Total Loss questions

Seeing as someone just posted some great deals on MSD TL.. Thinking about buying one...
Is it truly worth it?
Im riding 99% flat water..

The issue is, I have a Shorai 1.8 lb 12 cell battery, and dual bilge pumps(hey you cant be too safe.. )
IN a BOB2 hull
876 Jetworks stroker motor
right now for electronics- MSD enhancer, TBM charging flywheel,
Will I see that huge of a difference with upgrade to total loss.. .

Is total loss truly worth it
And how often am I going to have to charge batteries and what not..?

Too bad TL deal is on backorder and the price went up. I was going to buy one too, have it sent to JSS then have Art install it. That way there is absolutely no possible way it get get F'd up unless I touch it which I wouldn't do. lol

I actually run the Flame TL instead of the msd TL but its a rather large gain. I go two rides before a recharge which is about 6 hrs riding time.

Yes it's totally worth it. Yes it would even be worth if you have to put a 16lb battery in your ski in place of your 1.8lb battery. You may have to cut out the two bilge pumps or get another battery to run them if you keep the Shorai though. I ran a single 800gph bilge pump on my ski with basically the same battery as you (I'm assuming you have the 14a/h equivalent version). If I ran the bilge pump 100% of the time, I only got 2-3 gallons of gas before the battery died so recharge after every ride. 4-5 gallons if I ran the bilge pump only as I needed it. I don't typically start or stop the engine more than 5-10 times during the entire day.

The scary thing with those batteries is there is no indication that your battery is dying. It cranks like a champ until it doesn't. With the lead acid batteries, you can hear when the starter isn't cranking as fast as it did when fully charged. Just for the record... My 14a/h (equivalent) Shorai battery lasted 2-3 gallons with bilge pump running 100% and it would be completely dead while my lead acid 16a/h battery lasted 2-3 days and more than 10 gallons of fuel before I even noticed the battery getting weak.

not to thread jack, but im looking for a light weight battery for my ski.im running TL with dual bilges.looks like shorai is not the answer for me?...

I've used both Shorai and Ballistic and would absolutely recommend the latter. Much better build quality and better suited for our application.

I'd like to know if running a 8cell Ballistic how much run time is expected if running duel 800 ruels vs duel 500's

Just bought a TL system from mademan9 =) Also bought a ballistics 12 cell coming in friday. I have one 500 bilge which I would only use while riding, how long do you think my battery would last 4/5 hours riding?

I haven't run a ballistics battery but my 14amp/hr eq. shorai wouldn't last that long without the bilge running and I typically only crank my engine after I've stopped to rest. My typical time on the water is around 3-4 hours and I'm usually running my mouth and not my ski half of that time. That said, my old shorai would barely last a day.
