Touchiness of SJ steering?

Just picked up my 07 SJ last fall - I've only rode about 2hrs since. Again after riding a 650sx for a few years the SJ is a whole new

beast. Steering seems really sensitive? I think I can tighten down the nut to not make it so touchy - and after shortening the pole

soon I'm sure it won't seem so awkward. But whats the whole "quick steering" thing? Its not the same issue as I'm having is it?

Cause I find the looseness / shaky feeling is making it even harder to feel like I'm in control when riding?

And with the stock ride plate - I feel as I'm learning to skate(on ice) for the first time(good for freestyle/freeride I guess) - I know

alot of you might not be able to relate to the ice comment but you know what I mean?

Funny you saying this, ive just moved from sitdown to my first standup , a very clean sx650, the hardest part for me on the ski is how loose the bars are, when i stand up and hold on they feel almost slopy, very loose and makes it hard to keep in a straight line, if i hit a wave i find myself well over compansating and get in to a wobble, i have checked and there is no play in the system its just very light, is this just the way standups run,

You should be able to tighten down the nut under the steering plate. But in general going from a couch to a stand up - theres a learning curve. Good luck with that it'll be more comfortable with practise. My questions more about the "quick steering modification guys add to a ski? Although I do find my SJ alot more touchy then the 650SX. Welcome to the X!:beerchug:

I forgot!
quick steering will help with controlling the ski because it will respond faster to the riders input. you should get a quick steer turnplate, shorten your pole and do the steering nozzle mod. it will be a hole different riding ski. the taller you are the more you will need to chop off that long pole.

Hoping to hook up with you over summer at some point but might do some of those before I meet with you. I'm 6'3", so I was thinking 2-3 inches on pole - and possibly cutting/mod'n turnplate myself at a machine shop - whats to be done with the nozzle and what does that do?:scratchchin:

if your that tall i would take off 4" and still run at least a -1 turnplate. if that isn't enough you can upgrade to straight x-metal bars which moves the bars even closer to the turnplate pivot point. moving the steer nozzle connector in should give a little more throw each way. I think BrentR may be coming down for a wrench session and ride on saturday, your welcome to come down anytime, stay for as long as you want, we got lots of room, a campground, a flatwater river and Lake Erie to ride in ALL are welcome anytime.

Cool - ya thanks - I might try to ride with him on Friday - Saturdays out this week but it'll happen over summer - thanks again. 4" eh? hmm scared it might be too much..maybe I'll go the 3" and work on shorter turn plate / maybe bars.

what you are describing has nothing to do with your steering rate. Most Superjets tend to hunt, your 650sx does not. Its most annoying on smooth water, keep riding and you will eventually get used to it.
