I'm doing research into getting a long range off shore jet ski to fish tuna (and other pelagics) off the Oregon coast. a typical run for a day could be up to 40 miles one way, spend 4-5 hours trolling at ~6mph, then home again.
my main spec is fuel efficiency, stability, and rough water handling, in a 3 seater.
I would like to see some opinions on what ski would do the job best. right now, my front runner is the Kawasaki ultra LX 160. 20gal fuel capacity, 60gal storage. close runner up would be the Yamaha VX. what other craft should I be looking at? what kind of mechanical problems are the newer ski's having that I should be aware of before venturing 30 miles offshore?
