I've used the side bumper rails off of a sit down. It worked great. I've also used an old cutting board, just cut it into strips, drill and counter sink, works great also.

A cutting board eh? lol...Canadian thing intended lol...what about snowmobile sliders? They are a lot smoother and more slick than pvc. I have a pair of pvc tubes that I park my ski onto when sitting at the ramp and even those when wet drag off the paint eventually, but sled sliders might be a great alternative.

A buddy of mine hosed his carpeted bunks down with WD40 lol, but it works. His ski literally won't stay on the bunks even when dry. He has to keep the ski tied all the time when it's on the trailer, if not it would be gone before he even moved his vehicle lol. It's crazy how it takes no effort to slide his 400 lb SX-R onto his trailer...and how without touching it, it just slides off on its own when not tied. Oh and it has been that way for about a year now, no change in the performance of the WD40, and it hasn't stained his white gelcoat yet.

Ryan used composite 1x6 deck board.it cut off the tongue and groove, then cut it in half long way. He routered the edges and counter sunk the screws. It's full length 5'9" and glides nicely. He did it to make his moms xl760 load easier.

I think if the issue is carpet scratching too much, the issue isn't mechanical, it's psycologicl.

Turf the bunks and Lift it on with 2 guys instead of sliding it and it will minimize scratches...the turf won't let the ski slide though so you'll be forced to lift it...a pain IMO for loading and unloading though

I just put 3" pvc pipe over the bunks, carpet the pvc pipe and get a friend to help lift the ski rather than slide it (thanks jetx, Lol). Works great. No scratches so far.uploadfromtaptalk1424100366826.JPG

Instead of pvc use hdpe(high density polyethylene) it's used by utility companies in underground applications.. It's slicker than pvc to allow for cables to be pulled through easier...

3" pvc with carpet glued on it. wash the carpet often to keep sand out of it. (only reason why carpet scratches)

Can I ask how you cut the slots in the pvc? Iv thought of doing this but wasn't sure how to cut it and how did you fasten it? And for those who used 2" PVC how did you guys fasten it down I just always thought the pipe would crack or shatter when going down the road.

I measured the width of the 2x4 an subtracted about an 1/8". Used a chalk line and a skill saw and cut out the slot. Then used a hammer to put it in place.

HDMP is the only way to go it doesn't scratch the ski at all and it slides like butter. This is what they use on the top of ski/snowboard boxes so the boards can slide across them without damage and smoothly. HDMP stands for High Density Molecular Plastic, it can be a bit price but I've gone directly through the manufacturer and have gotten it relatively cheap. I may have a few sheets laying around if anyone is interested.

I know this is an old thread. But, I'm going to to try a few options on here. Just got my new 2015 edge. It's been off the trailer twice and two nice white gauges, marks Where it was blue. I know it will scratch, but to see this on brand new bunks Is absolutely killing me!! It's like the ding on a new car, getting it out of the at. But two nice ones in 48 hours!! I added more carpet today hopefully will help. I have a 2014 nautique, cleaner than when it came dealership! Part of me knows I'm nuts, the other wants to scream!

get 10" keel rollers, I load 1/2 my hurricane at super eaze, then the front lands and then drag the rest. I only use one and the ride plate lands slightly passed it and lower so literally locks it in. If you strategically placed 2 or 3 you'd have a scratchless load. Mine is between the bunks, 10" fits perfect. I'll get pics perhaps tomorrow.

My bunks are covered with lexan routed into strips (did it 5 years ago on a cnc router when bored one day) and on the very back is the 10" roller keel. Like I said it makes it super easy to pull up ramp until all the weight shifts more than 50% in front, but still makes for an easy drag, once done dragging, the ride plate drops right in front of it, kind of locking it in at that point <--- which was shear luck when I did it that it was the right height and distance, by accident actually.

A buddy of mine tried the roller blade wheels. They work awesome for sliding the ski, but they actually wore through the paint over time. Each wheel had quite a bit of pressure as compared to spreading the pressure out over a whole bunk. The paint wore out right where the wheels touched, so he had a bunch of bald spots on his hull.

I used these bunk slides. http://www.surfixinc.com/surfix_trailer_bunkslides.html They are a pretty soft plastic. I think they are pretty nice to the hull, but mine is already messed up so it's hard to tell. The slides make unloading and loading way easier. I can push and pull the ski off the trailer with one hand. My only complaint is that I didn't get them sooner.

These work great, one hand loading. These help preserve my old back. Thanks again @Rdrttoy

I ended up rounding the top of wood bunks and covering with hydroturf smooth side up. Slides super easy. Been riding twice a week since Feb and at body beach most know we keep trailer in the water, ride put back on trailer repeat so way more on and off trailer then most people. Turf has held up great and not one scratch.
