Saw these on a facebook page from a waverunner 1200 and been googling why anyone would do this in a two stroke or a 4 stroke. Is this some old forgotten tech or just some shade tree mechanic with too much time on there hands?

So maybe an attempt at "balancing" the exhaust pulses the way an H or X pipe would on a car. Be interesting to know how it ran.

Actually, I was just joking and have no idea what is going on there. :D
Ive never seen anything like that in my 27 years of being around 2 stoke ski's(Yam, Kaw, Sea-poo). I think it would be good in the WTF thread...haha

I've never seen it, but it looks like a guaranteed water leak into the exh ports. everybody knows that your ski runs like crap if the manifold gasket leaks and then there is the restriction to the flow factor. it cant work. probably why you see pix instead of the motor together. tweeker mod

There are parts missing.....
Exhaust port balancer and distributer flapper.
Inbetween the tubes within the exhaust port runs a little crossbar with a flapper .....this flapper opens when exhaust is being pushed out and closes right after to avoid anything going backwards into cylinder , they make a really cool sound like when you had the flappers on your bike on rear wheel. They used be installed in race skis that took advantage of the piston return spring which pulled the piston back to rapidly that exhaust was being pulled back into cylinder.

Will this count for April 1th still ??

That sounded pretty good so I googled exhaust flap and they are thing.

"Flaps deflect the exhaust gases up onto the intake manifold, which is mounted to the (2) studded rectangular plate. This heats the intake fuel/air mixture to provide a more volatile combination(?). Once the system begins to warm, the thermosprings weaken and the exhaust gases push (close) the flap to allow the exhaust gases to exit the manifold directly"
