Super Jet Tubbies

I realize that there are multiple threads on this.
I don't mean to be redundant.

Surfriders know what I'm looking for. (I hope) .

After shortening my pole I was having pearling issues because of the extra weight forward. I think I've got that under control by changing the way I work a wave.

I'd like to "not worry about it" like I do.
Sponsons are the remedy.

My question to fellow surfriders is: Which tubbies?
I have a very specific kind of application. I don't care about flatwater performance. I don't care about high speed performance.

get tom21/#.0 sponsons they ARE an improvement over tubbie 2's. They're the same benefit as a tubbie but more of it... and they're cheaper.

I was afraid it would come down to this. (regional)

Just to be clear: the purpose has nothing to do with "air-tricks".

Yes, I do air tricks, but the sponsons, although they may make a difference in air tricks, would be for the purpose of carving and keeping the nose from digging.

Something that would best help the "rocker-free" sj from a surfing point of view.

judging by crab's pic, Tom's sponsons should improve carving more since his includes an extra chine, not just increasing width. (They also won't gap in the front)

For surf riding you need the most volume (width) you can get towards the front section of the sponson. I could be wrong but I believe every manufacturer except for Blowsion Destroyers are pretty narrow in the front. Plus you can’t beat Destroyers for ease of installation.

Another vote for Tom21/#.0 sponsons. I have them on both my boats.

A few guys here have them as well... I think they are better than tubbie 2's as well. Blowsion destroyers are very nice too but very $$$$$$. However you can unbolt and transfer to your next hull if required.

i have triied several different types/brands of "tubbies" and personally am not able to tell them apart. i dont even notice the difference when i have mounted them differently (ie. some further forward or not flush with the bottom). so buy from whoever you want to give your money to.

i have tom 21's on my boat . first time out the other week ,i like them made slashing/riding waves much easier always felt like i was baby'ing the ski on the waves before can be much more aggresive on the face with these, sdefinatly saved a few pearls aswell .my friend has destroyers on his boat witch is otherwise similar to mine ,had a go on his not much difference to mine really .i would say his ski felt slower to turn and dug in even harder on sharp turns compared to mine . overall i would recomend both of these tubbies . the 21 s are alot more work fitting but cheaper and the destroyers are a bit heavier, not really an issue in the surf .get either you wont be disapointed .

building a surf ski for a friend and put on those destroyers and they are a really easy clean install. They are a pearling band aid.

Just an FYI, the tubbie 2's were not made for a surf application. They were made to improve turning on flat water.

You will have a hard time finding a better surf sponson than the destroyer, especially when you consider ease of installation.

Tubbie 2 style sponsons with the extra chine do not work well on the wave face. They have too much grab. U want the front end to wander a little bit when u are in the pocket it allows the ski to move with the wave. Also after doing a turn off a section when coming into the flats a ski with Tubbie 2s will have the tendency to throw u off when the tail is still in the foam and the nose is in the flats. Tubbie 1s are wayy more forgiving I had a ski with Tubbie twos and hated it I wouldn't mind trying some larger sponsons aside from making the front end more bouyant they also let u lay it over on a rail harder. Without sponsons a sj will lay over to a point and then tip over. With sponsons you can stick your handlebar in the water and still have something up front thats going to keep the front end tracking..must have IMO I can't ride a ski without them.

Ps mount them as low as possible u can tell the difference having them mounted flush with the bottom instead of up a 1/4" mine have been on for over 3 years and they still haven't fallen off. If u use the bostik glue they flex a little so it absorbes impacts better than 5200 which dries hard
