Super Jet Tubbies

Had #.Zero's on my last RN, just installed another set on my new RN's build.... Nothings better, price is right, simple install....

Nice to make an emphatic point that nothing is better, but I 100% agree with wydopen that (at least for me) it is a pain in the ass to have that chine in the sponson. And he did a pretty damn good job of summing up my feelings about them...

Ross I think for us it's a local thing, chris (#.zero) is local.... A lot of us like these in the surf.... The Blowsion are nice, just font see them around here.

I had a set of Tubbie II's on my 96 but went for the #Zero's on my 07. Personally I preferred the #Zero's as I felt they just made the ski was more stable and predictable but I'm not getting into big surf like you guys are. I just know that I liked the way my 07 handled far better.

Ross, these chines you are talking about, are they similar to the #Zero's? I don't have any pics of tubbies to compare too.

Here's some profile shots of the #zero's mounted flush with the bottom of the hull, just for you guys who haven't seen a set yet...

Grow your own Dan! 3 layers of 1/2" Divynacell and then a couple layers of 1208. These are broader in the nose than anything I've seen and are really fun in the surf. Funny thing is they also kick ass on high speed flat water turns.

I forgot!
i am thinking of using some sponsons on my shortend flatwater ski. i was thinking about going with the destroyers because i have always been happy with Blowsion and their service. i am looking to give some added stability and more pop off setup wakes. i can't see why it wouldn't, if the ski displaces more water it should give more lift and less plough thru on the setup wake. all the new hulls seem to have a wider footprint so i just gotta try it. any feedback for flatwater skis?

No feedback from me on Destroyers, but I ran Tubbie II's on my shortened RN hull and loved it on flat.

I forgot!
it doesn't have to be just destroyers, any sort of sponson that people are using for flatwater skis. i had tubbies on my sxi and when i switched to yamaha i liked how the superjets handled and didn't want to put tubbies on if it made it handle like a kawi. i have tried a SN with tubbies but going from a short RN to a tubbied SN is not fair grounds for comparision because the skis are totally different in handling. does it not make sence that a wider ski should get more lift or pop? maybe some wakeboarders can chime in, i know there are different boards for better pop but i hae no clue if they are wider, longer or more rocker.

Thank you all for chiming in. I'd like to compare some pics of #Zero's and Destroyers. The "chine" thing that Ross and Wydopen talked about is not what I want. I've got plenty of time to research.
I plan to do this while Jetmanic/Blue have my motor..(sometime after Daytona)
The specialFX method looks like more work than I wanna do...(and I'd botch that up for sure!)

Sponson design isn’t an East Coast Vs West Coast thing, it’s a what works and what works better thing. We are constantly trying different set ups here in our surf and are sharing our results. .O makes top notch stuff, nobody’s bashing him, it’s just we have found through our testing that in a surf application his design (as well as the older style Blowsions) are not the best. No need to reinvent the wheel either- we “borrow” proven designs from the surf industry. A Fish style surf board, with its wide nose has proven itself in the surf world. More volume is needed in the front section of the sponsons to get a similar effect. The added lift from a Sponson with front volume works in the surf because it gives you the “pop” you need on late drops and reentries. Like Curtis said “It’s a pearl band aid”

O SPONSONS 1.JPGtubbies before.jpg

Of every thing posted, Special FX is going in the right direction, his home made sponsons are bad a$$! I also make my own sponsons with super wide volume up front and I’ve also found that my wide sponsons work equally as well in small and large surf as well as flat water. Making your own sponsons is a pain in the ass which not everyone is capable of doing. The next best option is the Blowsion Destroyers because of there extra width in the front section design, and as already stated, the ease of installation is a major bonus.
Here's some photos of earlier proto types as well as the Latest design

Is this a project you plan to market? Or just getting your ski the way you want it?
Cuz I like it.

No I have no plans to manufacture and market these. I hate fiberglass work. I would actually be flattered if .O/Tom21 or Blowsion would copy them and offer them to everyone. I can’t really claim them anyways, after all to make mine I copied Blowsions original Tubbies, I just made my version really wide in the front so they would work better for a surf riding application. I could be wrong about this but I made these over two years ago, way before Destroyers came out and since I ride with Ross Champion quite often (Ross is sponsored by Blowsion) some feed back could have made it back to Johnny when he was designing the Destroyers which are the same concept as mine, just not as wide. Either way credit goes to Blowsion, they originally designed the Tubbie sponson which everyone copies.

this can definitely happen if there is enough interest. I can add to the front like you have and shave the lip on the side and shape it like a larger version of the new sj chine down the length.
