Your Engine, Pump and exhaust all affect each other to some degree.

Every new setup needs fine tuned.
We're do you start on a fresh setup? I know a lot of people will say ask your builder, but even when your really close what do you dial in first?

I have found that for me, the easiest thing to do is get your setup built first meaning if you want a Skat-Trak impeller and a pump core stuffer, do that first. Get your hardware needs taken care of first, carbs can always be dialed in to suit after all of the larger items have been installed. I think it is safe to say we all know how our skis currently operate, so when you change out one part you will feel how it makes the ski respond. But remember, carbs can only do so much if you have weak areas elsewhere such as old crank seals or gaskets. The more demand you place on the engine, the more important these areas become in maintenance.

You need to be sure that there is not too much pump load to begin with. This is a big problem with small engines because the hesitation will never go away. Big engines can pull almost anything. Carb tuning is the most important because you can burn a piston if its not right. Any change made requires a fuel mixture conformation to assure it is rich of peak.

I believe my little dasa 850 is over propped with a solas 12-18. There is hesitation off idle that I couldn't tune out last time I was at the lake.

Those SS Dasa engines need a low pitch prop. I ran a skat pump so pitches are different but I was low on prop pitch/stubby cone and 86mm nozzle to offload the pump quickly. Those SS engines need to spool up to make power. The off idle power isn't there. I found magic with the combo of TL, ^^^compression/VP112, and pump unloading. They can be a tricky animal to make power. I ended up buying 3 props before I got it where I liked it. Tuning sucks but if u get it right it makes all the difference.

I've have a skat prop at impros that I'm gonna have them pitch 9-15. Just ordered some higher compression domes right now I'm at like 150-160 psi right now..
