TURF AND TANK

Trying to put turf on a limited slip gas tank. Tried contact cement but wont stay attached to tank. I roughed up the surface on a test spot but it still doesn't hold. Any ideas. Silicone?

How long did you wait for the glue to dry before you stick the turf on? The turf takes a few thin coats to get it good. Clean the aluminum with acetone first.

Ok. I used dabwood contact cement

DAP or the wellwood? They work.
I use a heat gun to make the applied glue warmer, Be careful not to blow yourself up if there is/was gas in the tank.

Are you letting it completely dry on both surfaces? You need 2 coats on the turf. 1 coat on the tank. Did you clean the surface of the tank with Acetone?

Great advice. When I was applying it I did NOT Let the glue sit before applying. I put it on then put the 2 together right away.

thats why its called "Contact" cement. My first turf job on my X2 I did the same thing.

Apply Glue to turf then tank, then turf again. Drink a beer. come back. If glue is still sticky, drink another beer. If Dry, Go drink another beer anyhow.

Yes if u can touch the glue and not have any on ur hand then apply the turf if u get some on you then needs to dry more
