The more I think about it, we don't really have "surfers" in Corpus, more like surf potatoes. They just sit there and watch the waves. On top of that they stay super close to the jetty, within 1 to 300ft from it. Corpus is the fattest city in the US according to Men's Health and it shows. There used to be quite a few surfers after they cut the pass, but then the numbers died down. Why surf anywhere else when it's SOOO easy to sit next to the jetty and do nothing? My surfer problem pretty much solved itself in about a years time. The kite surfers hang out in the flats so they are not an issue either. The surf potatoes do try and paddle out to take up more room sometimes, but I stopped getting hassled over time. It appears to be very tough for them to hang out away from the jetty and it's just not physically worth it for them. They will never defeat me with their primitive boards, at least where I'm at. By the time they make it to where I am, I've already moved on and forgot about where I was. When I ride I tend to cruise down the beach and not hang out in one area, possibly due to past experiences. I do try and be courteous though, especially to people fishing. Couches normally pose the biggest threat largely due to the inexperience of the riders in the surf as I've seen them do some dumb stuff.
