Just finished turfing my SN last weekend with Toby holds (I think they are Toby's). I didn't make any relief cuts anywhere. Just used lots of heat from a heat gun and patience. I'll try to post some pics...

I think I had to make a small relief cut in the black turf once I had test fitted it on the floor of the hold. Wasn't much...maybe an inch wedge cut out? I made a cardboard template for the area/shape I needed to cover with the black turf. Just cut it a little wide so I had some room for error. I thought it turned out ok for my first total returf job. Couple areas I would have liked some cleaner cuts, but it will be abused in a year's time anyway....hope this helps

thanks that does help I thought it was possible just trying to save myself some cuss words. I guess the dowel rods is to keep it from fully sticking till you are ready? how long would you say the whole job took to do?

nice pics bro

Yeah the dowel rods helped a ton - definitely a life saver. I picked that tip off of another thread somewhere on here. They stop any premature sticking. When your working with large pieces of turf, it's sometimes tough to keep track of the latter half while your trying to stick the other end down. You just remove them and continue working along.

As for time...it took me awhile. Since it was my first full job, I went pretty slowly. The rails probably took at least an hour/hour and a half apiece to place and cut(including two coats of DAP and drying times. The floor of the tray took the longest because of the pad shaping and test fits. Probably another 3 hours at least with the padding, turf, and dry times. It was a pretty full weekend job with all the prep work (deturf/chopping tray up/defoam/refoam/re-glass) I was always concerned that I would not be able to stretch the turf far enough to make the required bends/seams. I was amazed at how much the heat helped.

One other thing I found to be important...When doing the rails, don't lay the turf down on the top until the end. Do the sides of the rails and under the hold first. Then you can massage the turf around the top of the hold using heat and eventually around that corner where it begins to slope down. It takes some stretching, but it will form. Just need to work systematically inch by inch towards the outside of the rail.
