Turfing footwells

If you have never done it, get the kit.

The foothold pieces in the kit are useless. The kit is good for the tray, front panel and sides but you will still have to cut the pieces for the footholds. Also get the kit without the hydroturf cutout. It is a big PITA and distorts.

Just the tray and footholds, 1 sheet will do it. If your referring to the footholds meaning the sids as well you will need 2.
I would be turfing the tray, sides and footwells so i guess 2 sheets it is.
Iv been looking for examples of turf jobs and all i come up with is Wamiltons and How to turf with no seams. As this is my first turf job, apart from doing my side rails which one would you recommend to be the best for a novice turfer?

For a novice I would reccomend the kit. If you tried to cut the patterns for the sides you will be pulling your hair out. But buy an extra sheet for the footholds and in case you mess up.

Its always a good idea to have extra. Its easy to mess up especially your first time turfing.
I tell you what, if you decide to just go with sheets I have the pattern for the sides (gunwhales) if you want it. The tray and the front panel are easy to cut.

Im over in N.ireland and the price of jetski stuff is nearly double what u guys pay for it, we usually get a few of us to order together from Blowsion, and even with import duty and shipping it works out much cheaper than buying it in Uk, its such a rip of over here.
If im not going with the kit and buying 2 sheets, i take it they sell the base matt undersheet seperatly? (for extra padding)

They do sell the padding seperatelly. Also, ask for the B stock. It is quite a bit cheaper.

i just did my footholds and tray about 3 weeks ago and i bought the kit and it worked great. there is a bit of trimming involved but the general shapes were nice to have, saved me time i think. However, after working with the material i would agree that going with turf and no kit would still be okay for a beginner as i would, knowing what i know now, have just taped out my whole tray with duct tape and cut out the necessary shapes and transferred this tape template to the hydro turf sheets and cut out as necessary. i used this method for my rails because the sxr's have a slight curvature to them and it was quite effective. anyways, good luck with the turf job, just be patient and let that glue set up good and you will be golden!

your going to have a much cleaner and finished job if you use the sheets. go bstock. dont worry about it being your first time any one can do it, just take your time.

I took the easy option this time and ordered the kit, my friend has a few pieces of turf that i can have to finish of the footwells. Maybe after iv done my first turf job ill be a bit more confident next time. Even with the kit im not expection it to be that easy.

Cut it big then trim to fit also use lots of heat and beat the heck out of it with a rubber mallet after it’s down.

Even tho i have purchased the kit will i have to do a lot of cutting and trimming? I was expecting just a little cutting and trimming in under the footwells where the kit isnt that great. Or am i mistakin :dunno:

i have used a kit and there is still significant trimming. blowsion leaves about and etra inch all the way around the pieces. The dash piece wont need trimming, the tray mat, side mat, and the mat which fits into/under the foothold will need to be trimmed. definitely get a small exacto hobby knife for this trimming and you will be good to go.
