turfing my 650sx

I took off the side pads and the one in front of your feet and it seems like a dumb question but am i supposed to turf directly to the hull or am i supposed to take off the padding on the plastics that i took off and turf that? I bought some grey underpadding to make up for the gap where the plastic piece was in the rear of the ski and i guess i'll put some under the mat i will be standing on. I bought some grey diamond cut b stock mat I want to turf the rails, chin pad, and the whole standing area. I was also looking for some graphics for a 1990 650sx i saw this one that i really liked but can't find it anymore....it was black and kawasaki green and started at the engine cover and went forward and swoope ddown and back and has a checkered flag at the rear of the ski. does anyone know where i can get this or other cool looking ones?

I am going to be turfing my 750sx in the next week or two. I plan on throwing those plastic things away and turfing right on the hull there. In fact, the HydroTurf kits include the turf for that area.

it is very similar but it has the a checkered flag stripe at the end....i think the 750sx's have them......i think im going to wait on the turfing and put footholds in so i guess i will have to scrap the plastics at that point.

well, first off, by getting rid of those side pieces, it will give you a little more room in the tray (not much). but it also looks soooo much better. just make sure you sand it all very well, and let the glue dry for at least 15 to 20 min before applying. check out the pics of my old 650sx that i did the turf on..

I sold the sides and dash to pay for the turf:biggthumpup: Went right on the body.

Do you have close-ups of the dash? I'm going to be doing the same thing but don't know what to do around the gas knob and primer. Did you add any type of faceplates there?

I just cut a template out of card stock, traced it on the turf and cut. After it was in I poked the holes from the engine side with a razor. I used a big washer under the primer and compressed the turf. The gas valve does poke out pretty far, but I will cut it down eventually. I just can't remember witch is on and witch is reserve:banghead:

Here's the best shot I have. the ski is at the lake or I would take another one for you.
