Im turfing my stock chinpad and had a few questions for anyone who has done it.

Will cutting the lip off [in pic] make it structurally unsound? Ide like to run the turf up to the edge and i think it would look funny with bowing out all around the edge.

should i put a layer of glass over it, and the mounting prongs so that it doesent break off in the future? Thanks

I've seen it done both ways, around the edge and just up to the edge. I've read on here where people were wearing helmets but the handle pole still got them in the nose. Because of that, I wrapped the turf over the edge. If you trim the lip etc, it will make it more flimsy, i've seen it wrapped in turf and ridden that way without any major issues. A layer of glass wouldn't hurt if it feels flimsy to you.

I hammered mine out of a thin sheet of aluminum, then a layer of 9mm under pad and wrapped it in turf.

thanks for the help guys

your looks great, did you run foam under it or just turf? i wanted to run no foam because being an SN chinpad its allready the size of the pacific and thought that - the foam it would look a bit more clean

thanks for the info, im going to just turf the plastic too. turf + the foam would look really thick.

I was planning on glassing over it when i decided to turf it but decided it would be fine the way it is.

I always scuff the inside of the pad then I put on a few layers of 9 oz glass. Doesn't add much weight and stiffens the plastic up. Then you can cut it to whatever shape you want. I always cut out the foam pieces that protrude into the mounting hole recess and glue them back into the plastic. That way you don't have a gaping hole under your turf.

I also wrap the leading edge under the lip so the water doesn't peel it off when doing nose stabs.

just turfed it up, waiting for it to dry, any tips on sticking the edges down, they seem to want to not be on there, i have clamps on it now.

never ran into this problem before, ive heard superglue to keep them down, but will that stick them on in the first place?

i did, i think its because there was lots of extra around the edges, i trimmed it up a bit and it started to stick a little more, clamped it down and ill check tonight to see

Too much extra turf, i always put the cement on both the turf and where its going and let it dry till when i stick it down it doesn't try to come off

should of wrapped it under to fill up the gap a bit more, but it still looks good and 100X better then what it did look like
