Two Rockered Squares at the Same Dam Time

Just about one year ago to date my buddy and I took our square nose superjets to pismo to ride surf for the first time. After only owning our skis for a couple of weeks I spent the majority of the weekend wrenching but for the short time spent in the waves got the bug. Without even riding surf again we both decided we wanted to shorten the rear a few inches (me on a RN hull I bought to build up, and Zach on his square hull which he was also adding footholds to). We both rode the shortened hulls a few times out at oside in the surf before deciding we wanted to build something surf dedicated. We both picked up squarenose hulls for dirt cheap that would be donors. The plan was de-foam, shorten, rocker, lower hood, and widen the tray in 4-6 weeks. Zach finished his ski and was able to get a test ride in before pismo freeride 2014 after a short 6 weeks of building after work and some weekends (in between riding current skis of course) while I pulled a few back to back all nighters to complete mine in time for the freeride. Both skis pretty much made their maiden voyage last weekend up in pismo and we couldnt ask for a better ride. Check out the photos of the build and final products below. Big thanks to Carter B for an awesome rocker kit.....if anyone is thinking about rockering their superjet stop thinking and go do it. Now its time to ride. I will update this thread hopefully with photos of these bad boys getting upside down at oside in the near future.

Nothing crazy on the hoods just chopped the top half off and used some corrugated sign material, duck tape, and candle wax to lay glass over from the inside. Trickiest part was cutting out the stock liner....that was a bitch. We made our own liner from a few layers of glass and glassed that in and added some holes for breather tube. I actually am not even using the liner for air, my motor runs fine as is with just holes in the pole bracket for air intake but the liner stiffened up the hood a TON. Super flimsy without it.

The rocker was definitely an amazing mod. Really made the ski feel a lot smaller and made a world of difference in the surf

Nice skis! Looks like you guys did an excellent job of tackling the hoods yourselves. Nice chinpads too ;) Did you make your own or just throw a layer of glass over one of the ones I sent you?

The one on the white gray and red cf numbers ski I made. I work at a precision sheet metal shop.

The other one is a Ltd first Gen AAA pole that Matt got on a ski he bought.

And @Dalton we laid some glass over the one you sent us. Waxed up yours with some candle wax and laid two strips of 17oz down the center and 2 full layers of 12oz around the entire thing. Popped it off and trimmed to size. Came out alright. Not nearly as nice as yours.

Ended up being just under 2k total for both skis (about $1,000 each) just for the hulls including a ton of glass and resin, turf, paint, body filler etc. the rest of the parts for the most part were transferred over from donor skis.

Do you have a final weight of the bare hull and hood after the mods you did?
