Hello fellow X'ers. This is my first post on the forum and I do thank you for having me. A lot of good info that I have seen so far. Got to give credit to Sanoman for the recomendation to the forum. Okay back to business. Just getting off the ground again in the stand up world, havent had one in almost a decade. Through years and years of racing MX there has never been any premix oil that has been as reliable (to me) as Maxima 927. However I am a Bel Ray dealer and have a surplus supply of Bel Ray JS 2. We sponsored a local boat racer and he swears by the stuff. Does anyone have any experience with running it in their ski? Im leaning towards the Maxima naturally but it would rock if I could use up this overstock of Bel Ray with confidence. Thanks for any input

There's been a few threads that I've seen about what the "best" oil is to use and I've never seen anyone mention Bel Ray before.

Generally when asking around here, most people will say "Anything thats the gas station when I fill up" or they're die hard Amsoil fans.

Here's a good thread:

Here's a search directly on Bel Ray oils:

Looks like a few people use it.

Wolf made this statement about it: "It's definitely a top notch oil, but don't know about how it works for watercraft, because I don't think it has any of the corrosion inhibitors that watercraft specific oils have"

That sounds kinda serious. :)

It sounds like you could use it without an issue, it's just expensive. Thats what I'm understanding of what I've read.

Yeah, Ive got too much of this stuff to go buy another brand. After reading a few diferent things today I believe I'm gonna go for it. From what I gather its pretty much the same as the H1R that Bel Ray offers but it includes the needed additives for watersports. FYI it is also suitable for premix and autolube systems. Thanks guys

Best oil for what application? It turns out that the best oil for puttering around and dunking our skis just happens to be the cheapest and most available, TCW-3. Sitdowns and racers do better with an air-cooled spec.

you can use the Bell Ray and be fine. I personally have switched everything I own to 100% Synthetic. I was running Klotz Benol for years because it was SUPOSED to be on of the best. I switched to Synthetic and noticed a HUGE difference in how clean everything was when I took the top end apart compared to the same time frame with the Klotz. Not sure that is all that maters but I was impressed enough to convert. I have used Penzoil full synthetic off the Walmart shelf every since with no issues.
Prior to Klotz I ran Yamalume (who knows what that actually is) but it worked well too.
Run the Bell Ray for half a season or so and check out the effects (build up, corrosion, wear) on your top end. I honestly think this is personal preference. If the Bell Ray is TCW3 and you have a surplus then use it and see how you like it.

Wal-Mart quick silver all the way.

WOW, maybe this stuff has come a long way since I have used it. It honestly left a huge build up after using one gallon of it in a pinch on vacation one time. It ran like shiot the way I was tuned and burned dirty.
This has been a decade ago.

You are not the first person ive heard say that, big diff in running a closed course wide open and brappin around in the ocean for oil build ups.Team scream recommends the QS from wally as well,I think those guys know what they are talking about. We have taken many a motor down run on it and they are just like new looking.

After I break in (got to build first) my 701 I'm going to run Penzoil full synthetic. I have not had problems with the XLF blend in a 650, but the full synthetic isn't that much more expensive and I will be running higher compression and whatever I can think of.

Well I took it out this evening for the first time on the Bel Ray. Seemed to be just fine. Almost no smoke, no load ups and has a semi sweet smell similar to Motul. I believe higher end oils no matter which brand are going to protect and do a great job. Get the mix right and forget it. Hey did I mention that I wont have an oil bill for all of the '10 season? Ha
