What jetting are you running? What pop-off springs? What air filters? What setting on the high and low speed screws?

If you dont mind me asking I am fighting mine getting it running right.

140 high, 72.5 low, screws as per FPP's instructions. Using OEM 38's and F/A with one screen only. 95 gr. springs. Not 110 % happy with how it behaves down low, still a tad rich when blipping about. Pulls like a train everywhere else!:icon16:

What is the JSS mod and do you mean you just gooped high temp sili in it and assembled?

I put a ring of it inside the manifold, copying the shape of the o-ring. I also use the wide clamps pictured. When I remove everything, I just remove the clamp nearest the manifold. I also put some (very little) high temp grease on all mating surfaces. Makes it soo much easier to pull it off.

lastly the pipe and coupler installed and the clamp tightened down, you can see that with all the mounts and clamps it should be nearly bulletproof!!

If you look at the 2nd pic, there's some excess bolt there. Cut it some to make it possible to put a socket on it. If you use a 1/4" flexible extension, it's very easy to install/unistall after this small mod!

I'll be very curious to see how this works over say 30 tanks.

Which part of it?
I've been throught double that in the last 2 years without mechanical issues with the pipe. Once you get the alignment right, it is actually pretty durable.

those t bolt clamps are a bad idea. i bought a set for mine and they are to wide and grip so good that the will cut into the coupler as it vibrates. you can get it to run and make power but you definitely need more mods.

I think it will be ok But I have been wrong before......

Great write up.

Thanks, I have always wanted to do this but once I start working I can't stop to take pics! I'll try my best to document what happens to the ski with these mods.

You mentioned that it wasn't all that great of a mod on a stock motor. I thought I read somewhere on this forum about there being two different type 4 chambers.... a black chamber and a blue chamber. Yours is obviously black in colour, but has it been repainted or is it truely a black chamber type 4?

Yes its a true black pipe

I didn't look to see what slow speed jet or pop off was in it. These carbs were off of a race boat and I went as far to see that it had 140's in it and called it good enough for a test ride. Honestly I was happy with it a few minutes on the trailer adjusting the screws and it ran great.

I had the slow speed at 3/4 and the high speed 7/8 and it was a little fat but hey thats safe.

Next week 44's, riva intake and v-force reeds.

Thanks to hurricane Fay, we really have not had a thorough testing. Yes, it rain all weekend . I took very short ride - it seems to work very well with her set up.:dance: I will give it a good try Wednesday or Thursday.
