Type 4 pipe setup

I knwo the type 4 needs to be aligned and setup properly to prevent it from blowing couplers...so I'd liek to hear what others are doing to setup there type 4's for reliability. ANy tips or tricks would be great.

i did the jss mod to mine...made life easier. also had to slot the mounting holes to get it to line up perfect. i usually put the pipe on with clamps loose, and all mounting bolts loose. then u can line it up nice and tighten the top mounts, then front then coupler. thats just how i did it. i also just used a fat bead of ultra copper between pipe and manifold instead of the orings. never had problems. i actually miss tht pipe. made noticable more power then my b limited. but the new setup uses the bpipe so i switched.

They do make more power for sure, but such a pain for service.

i cut some out of my hood seal lip, and after setting it up a couple times i could have that pipe out in minutes. the b pipe i have to take out my batt box and gas tank to remove it. which is more of a pain IMO. impossible to remove the head with the pipe installed, but other then that it was easy to work with. i miss it

I set it up exactly how JSS explained. Cut the lip off the manifold, no Orings, Ultra copper sealant, thick Silicone high temp coupler with T bolt style clamps. Align the chamber on the motor with no coupler and the engine out of the hull so you can see exactly how the manifold and chamber meet up, shim with washers to get a nice fit. A little extra time in the garage = more time on the water.

I packed mine with high temp silicone just like that. Didnt remove the lip off the manifold, I saw no reason too.

going on 2 years with the same coupler.

When you get a 5 ply silicone coupler it can be a real hassle getting it together in the hull (get the coupler over that lip). As long as your lord mounts are solid and aligned correctly the lip isn't really necessary IMO and makes installation much easier.

Im not sure what ply my silicone hose is but I do have some effin heavy duty marine exhaust hose I picked up for free a while back. I think this stuff is about 1/4" - 5/16" thick.
I picked up some of the same for my B pipe also.

One thing for sure whenever I have to remove my motor, I pull the pipe out with it all connected.

Anyone know where to get to factory lord mounts 1"x1 1/2"??

I bought this pipe also about a year ago. had x-scream perform porting on the manifold. had the pipe power coated and there it sits. I know if i change out my b-pipe with this i will also have to change my prop, says pat at x-scream but will make better power.. I have a 8mill stroker. set up well every thing works well together.. Would you change this pipe set up.. Side note i'm also building a fx-1 and now have use for the b-pipe i will be taking off.. What do you think?? I never heard of this coupler issue it seems like it's not much of an issue as long as it is set up good..

The B pipe is MUCH nicer to work on and around. I really liked the power my Type 4 made and it seemed reliable (also looked really cool) but after I switched to a B pipe it made life easier.

What is the thread pitch/diam. and the size of the rubber mount? I have a couple lord mounts sitting here that I used on my WDK pipe that may be the correct size.
