300/440/550 unmanned 550 top speed

i may be buying a 550 and yes i plan to make it rc. first i plan to install all the servos and a reverse/neutral and test my proof of concept. then im going to fashion it to look like some sort of speed boat, probably a cigarette boat.

build your own hull and use the 550 driveline.scale up a wooden hydro kit and you could build a 100mph 1/4 scale machine!

It shouldn't be that hard to add enough ballast to keep it hooked up but yet keep it light enough to go fast still. If speed is a desire and no rider will ever be on it then junk the jet and go V-prop, You would have to rethink reverse but it may give you more options in the long run with gear boxes.

You should see if you can find one of these and replace the rope control with a RC Controller.http://www.gizmag.com/go/1736/picture/1940/

Ballast is one possibility to aid with the porpoising. Another possibility is to build an adjustable, extended ride plate and play around with the length. I think that is what you were alluding to with the trim system. If you can do it with a ride plate or ballast, I'd opt for that (less servos needed).

Cool idea. Just make sure you stay within range of the controller so it doesn't take off into someone's boat on you.

MY JS550 went fast enough when the throttle cable got pinched...

Fast enought to crush the front of the ski against a dock, and smash the handlepole and the hood.

She ran fast and straight. no porposing about it.

She ran like a suicide bomber late for an appointment in hell....

I had the 650 motor and a Westcoast over-sized gas tank, so that changes the weight distribution from stock.

A JS550 would make an incredible RC cigiarette boat!

It could also pull a tube with a cooler!
