I don't think people are afraid to put their name to any type of review

I disagree, people don't want to openly critique a mfg that might later damage the relationship.

It doesn't take much for a mfg to decided to 'take their time' on honoring a warranty if the customer has openly discussed, expressed dissatisfaction on a forum as concentrated as the X. This community is so small, its very damaging to the mfgr if a person spreads negativity.

x2, keep it anon. I can see the BS on Amazon... Positive AND Negative...

Interesting. I've had more than one manufacturer tell me they'd much rather have the reviews not go anonymous, but then other non mfgs would rather have it go anonymous.
Again, the goal of this website is to help people out.. Not to argue about it. I'd love to see it take off, and I'm sure I'm not the only one that sees the potential of how useful it can be. Over 1,000 views, and very few people have spent a minute writing a review. Is that what I should expect? IMO I thought this would be a hit.

Most indecisive people will read into products before a potential purchase, weighing good and bad.. I assume that this is what you want, to make a more transparent way for the pwc consumer to get real reviews.

But as most all online product reviews . The average consumer just want what they want, They usually dont leave any feedback unless its negative.. same reason most hang up the phone on telemarketers and close website polls and surveys after online sessions. They dont want to be bothered... The one way street..not always give and take...therefore it does not suprise me that you have seen alot of views but very little activity in the reviews ( not saying this is 100% the case here ) but it will happen .

case and point the Solas mag pump.. Theres alot of individuals who have had premature issues and failures. others who have been un affected. your page has the potential to be sucessful for sure. But like any informative thread on here people will have to actaully use the site and find it and READ! UTILIZING THE TOOLS THAT EXIST.. not just post new topics because they dont feel like it or are lazy. Good Luck !

You are asking people to put some personal time and effort into something. It shouldn't be surprising that you are not getting a lot of reviews written. The people (in this thread) that like the idea of a review web site want to primarily read reviews, not write them.
Take a step back and figure out what motivates people to write a review. I'd say that a lot of times, it's a negative experience that gets people to put out the effort to write a review. This hobby is very niche with a very small community of riders and vendors. You sort of know everyone, even on an international basis. At any bigger ride, you can expect to run into, talk to, be familiar with a majority of the vendors and "celeb" riders. That's pretty unique - I cannot think of too many other hobbies where you get that close to every level of market participant. So what does that mean for product reviews?
Because the community is so small, you may sort of automatically feel somewhat connected to the vendor you just had a bad experience with. Maybe it's someone that you've ridden with before or had a beer with. Maybe it's someone you've gotten a free t-shirt from before. Maybe it's someone that is pretty well universally liked. Now if you have to leave your real name (or established X-H2O screen name), you're probably going to think twice about writing anything negative.
Because of how small the market is, a lot of times when a bad review is posted the vendor actually comes on here to defend themselves and/or to call into question whatever the customer is saying/writing/doing. That's also pretty unique. Or perhaps the vendor even contacts people who run the site to step in, one way or another.

Just my opinion. The hobby is too small for honest reviews with recognizable names and it is too small to get a meaningful number of active review writers.

I started to use the page and had an idea.

You should create a standardzied feedback format.

Perhaps make it a Pop up or something that users see. It would create consistency. Pulled this from the web and added to it.

  • Introduction: Start with a brief introduction to the product. Explain what it is and what it does. If there is an interesting story involved on how you stumbled upon the product, you could tell it here.
  • Body: Share a quick review of how the product worked for you. Give the product a rating or grade.
  • Pros: List the benefits of the product. Pick out the features that work particularly well and things that made the product stand out. Try to include at least 2 or more pros.
  • Cons: List any potential drawbacks you see with the product.
  • Analysis: Revisit your rating or grade and explain how you arrived there.
  • Conclusion: Stay positive while concluding the review. Name other options if you have tried them. If it is a new product or a new field, make recognition of that.

excellent idea!! Unfortunately I haven't figured out exactly how to make it a pop up yet. I can bold that and put it right in front of the reviews where people can see it though.

Don't get discouraged, right now lot of people are hybernating. Bump this thread during Spring and Summer, and you will see a huge spike in interest. I can't sell a Jet ski part on here for the life of me, unless it's between games or halftime, that's when they all put their beers down and flock to the internet. :) That gives you some time to play with the website, keep it up!

Another issue that will come up is some people have personal agendas against specific companies and will create fake reviews to disparage them. We deal with that here where people will try to create a new account to do it but we catch the new account 99% of the time.

Also, we have almost 8 years of posts here that you can search through to find the general consensus on a product. Building a new database of opinions that are trusted will take a lot of time, and as mentioned starting it in late October when activity is low doesn't help.

Thanks alot for the advice everybody! You don't have to include who you are if you really don't want to.
I know there's a decent amount of information on certain products or you search here, but there's still a lot you can't find, and the only info is in the product description from the manufacturer.
If you have any more suggestions just let me know.

Perhaps partner with a vendor to offer a gift card/discount from time to time in order to entice people to participate. It doesn't have to be much. Some people will jump at the chance to save a nickel. I'm one of them. :) Have the gift card/discount awarded based on a random draw, user vote, etc. Be creative.
