Upgrading stock 08 pump to Solas 144 Mag and 9/15 Hooker

Thanks again guys I really do appreciate the insight. I'll be ordering a mid shaft alignment tool and a shim kit. Might as well start learning the inn's and outs of engine removal and install.

What is up with people and broken mounts? My mounts in my 95 square are still mint after v wakes, wakeboard wakes, landing upside down, under rotating rolls, pancaking, etc..

I don't know what happened. I didn't even know they had let go. Thank goodness my couplers weren't destroyed. I did a few hard nose stabs and got thrown a few times but nothing to the extreme

that looks more like some one did not use antisteez on the motor mount bolts. when you try to loosen the bolts they spin the motor mount and cause the vulcanized rubber to fail. be sure use a hefty amount of antiztees or grease when you put new mounts in.

Thanks for the advice I'll def do that when I reassemble. I never even put a wrench to the mount bolts. I was trying to wiggle my factory mod chamber loose from the rubber coupler and the whole motor pulled forward

Its not in common to find something like that. In fact I've learned with skis that its always something. It never ends.

I did have a friend with a low hours 08 whos motor mounts all broke and the motor came forward. That was a few months ago. Maybe its a common issue on 08s

I've got new rhaas motor mounts coming along with all new bolts. I watched the wamilton motor shimming video and he recommended using blue lock tight. Should I use that or anti seize? It's a strictly fresh water ski

I normally dont say much on this topic but have seen many wiped out mid shafts. Drive shafts and pumps lately. If anyone on here feels you can pull a pump and leave in the wear ring and change pumps and have it alligned id love to see their machining skills. Every pump has a tolerance and from Yamaha to Solas change. Good luck
Nothing against your question. Just dislike some answers here to questions sometimes.
Finally posts i can read and smile about. Not because each of us have done it ourselves, but because we 'know" its incorrect. I have done it, and you can do it. for a short amount of time. All were saying is that when the bearings fail, or splines are missing in a few hours to a few years, you'll know why. If your just swapping parts, impellers, etc to check performance then fine. Once you know its good, then pull the motor and mid shaft and do it right.
I agree. Interesting that some folks who havent done this are commenting and giving advice..or worse agreeing w bad recommendations. Why? If you havent done it, dont give advice as if you did or THINK its a valid idea. If you pull the pump, you need to re-align. If you do it differently you might save time but run the risk if mis-alignment damage.
Now that my rant is over, re-alignment isnt too difficult. There are many posts on how to do it. You dont have to take the motor out. You just need to unbolt the motor mounts or the motoe off the mounts and slide motor forward a bit. This will allow you to remove the midshaft. look at your drive shaft in the hole of the bulkhead/ firewall. Put bolts on loosely. Then align the pump. Forward bolts should be used to align left/ right. Once that is done finger tighten. Then to align up/down, shim the rear bolts. Put the midshaft back on. Now slide the motor back so the couplers are back together WITHOUT the rubber biscut. Align using a straight edge like a credit card making sure the two coupler edges are straight aligned. Shim between the bed plate and motor mount as needed. Try shimming from the fwd mounts first. Wamiltons has a great video on this.

Got all 4 new rhaas mounts installed, Also added some Kenny keepers. Mag pump is in and shimmed. Midshaft was cleaned, re greased and put back in. Motor is reshimmed and ready. All in all the process was not to bad for my first time. A few choice words at times but overall very rewarding experience. I have a much better understanding of how my ski operates. I took the time to check my B pipe water screws and holy water everywhere. Bottom 2 screws where flooding the pipe.
