We spend over $800,000 a year with UPS... abpout 10 years ago we figured out we were paying over $40,000 for insurance and were claiming less than $10K.
We stopped using their insurance and "self insure" without all the hassles.
The company I worked for did the same, everything over $100 value we calculated the price shipped with insurance, charged the customer that then shipped without insurance. They tracked all of the shipments that went out like this with the amount the insurance cost and they found, when packaged correctly, they had very few claims and the money saved not insuring them FAR outweighed the cost to replace the items that were damaged.

well after speaking with them twice yesterday, i made sure that a note was put in the system about the containers being switched during shipping... the customer took all the pictures that they requested and sent them over. I haven't heard from ups or my customer today so im guessing the has not heard back from ups. Lets hope they take care of this, but ill update this when i hear more.

as the shipper ups should return item to you for claims handling.good luck with them as they will draaaaaag their feet until you wear out.just don't give up and eventually you'll get your $$ back.

I had much better luck shipping engines in boxes than rubber tubs, it appears that FedEx, USPS, UPS don't like the rubber tubs...

I agree. Lots of the plastic totes that are sent to us by customers are cracked, etc. They do not handle the crap the monkeys do to them. Double walled boxes with lots of tape in all directions to hold together and lots of foam inside will take lots of hits that plastic containers will not.

I had one shipped to me in a tote as described above. Zip ties and lots of padding. It got to me taped together with the padding still falling out. The tote had to be trashed an ended up missing some bolts that where bagged separately. Could have been a lot worse, but as a customer I prefer a double box.
