Velcro instead of turf?

Has anybody ever tried to turf an entire ski in Velcro
And put the reverse side on the bottom of a pair of shoes?

If so I would like to hear how it worked
And I would also like to know anybody's thoughts on doing this and would love to hear any comments, good or bad
Thanks!

That sounds like a leg injury in the making. It's bad enough to get your foot stuck in a foothold when you fall. Can't imagine doing a rag doll every time you fall. Bad idea.

Never fall or mess up! Duh!...

I dont think it would last. We are pretty hard on these ski's or atleast i know me and my buddies are.

Something I've thought about: install the clip from clippless pedals in your tray. Wear cycling shoes.
This interests me. Do you know if these pedal clips would stay clipped when performing maneuvers especially upside down? I'm not familiar with them at all beyond just reading up on how they work. I'm sure the forces we exert would be much greater than their original design intention.

bicycle clips will not come out unless you twist your ankle outwards. They're also designed for you to pull up on the pedals if you need some more power climbing hills. If you absolutely had to stay in your tray bicycle clips would be the solution. you coming out of your clips would be a non-issue.

I've considered magnets in shoes too. Probably doable. The idea being the magnets would just hold your heal down. Your toes would be under some sort of foothold, and the back of your heal would be against something. Magnet would be easy to slid off, but not easy to pull straight up out of.

The best holds I've seen as far as not ever being able to fall out are the ski clinic holds w/heal block. I wish they included them on their pro carbon hulls to customers, but they don't. It's the thing I wish the hulls came with. I never asked them why, but they just don't. The only way to get out of the clinic holds are to twist your ankle inwards. Exactly like you had on a pair of bicycle clips, except the ankle must come inwards to get out. Most other holds are some variation of padding and kicking your foot into them as hard as you can.

I'm not sure I'd want to be that attached to the tray in the event of a bail. Especially if it were in the surf and I couldn't get unclipped. Seems like a great way to drown.

What if it were an electro magnet that is strong enough to hold you down and was powered by a waterproof li-po battery back that was worn on your back and the ski had steel plates for your feet?

Ps: does anybody here have the means to try and see if it will work?

@Tyrant1919 So the bike clips only release when the ankle is twisted outwards? It sounds like you'd get clipped in and wouldn't be able to get out.

@mxcrazy012 It might be easiest to have the electromagnet in the tray and have the plates on your feet for the sake of waterproofing and such...even still I'm not sure I'm up for robo-skiing yet.

I've been stuck in my footholds before and fell backwards. Not fun. Nice ankle workout. Had to sit on my back and try to wiggle out. Happened twice. As long as you have a real vest on, I can't see a competent swimmer drowning if he were stuck in footholds, even in surf.

Yeah, I in no way would do anything crazy to keep my feet on a ski. But I like to think of interesting solutions in our wonderful jet ski world.
