Vforce 3 lifespan?

Not sure if it's related, but in the world of snowcross racing there are "holeshot buttons" which drastically retard the timing. They're used on the starting line to heat up the pipe just before the holeshot, cause all kinds of backfiring and wreak havoc on reeds. It would make some sense if that is something they use as somewhat of a testing ground for reed durability.

Believe guys that raced X4 Seadoo's use to have a Holeshot button they would utilize......

msd ehancer has a holeshot option:
PG: 3/4 https://documents.holley.com/4253.pdf

CONNECTING THE HOLESHOT/OVERTEMP RPM LIMITER
The PINK Wire of the Enhancer Ignition is for the Holeshot/Overtemp feature. There are several options
in the way this feature can be used.
The Holeshot feature of the Enhancer Ignition is designed for use at the starting line. When activated,
the Holeshot feature limits the engine rpm at approximately 3,200 - 3,600 rpm with the throttle fully
open. This feature provides more consistent holeshots. To use the Holeshot feature, you will need
the Holeshot Switch (PN 4372). The Overtemp feature limits the engine rpm to approximately 3,600
rpm if the engine reaches a damaging temperature.

I talked to holeshot and he suggested that the 2 pedal reeds mine were swapped out with will flutter less, bounce off the cages less, possiblly a little less off idle response but more mid to top.
Sounds pretty dang good to me and makes me wanna try these reeds out!

Interesting stuff thank you.

Since we're off topic anyway....recently I was comparing reeds on some other motors I had on hand. YZ250, Yz125, polaris 800 snowmobile, 66e yamaha, and looking at pictures of basically any high performance two stroke I could find...and it sure looks like if you compare reed cage size to horsepower, or reed cage size to the size of the carb being used, a big motor based off of a 62t case, with 46mm+carbs... the reeds are proportionally pretty small.

What your find out on the YZ 125 ? Thanks

I don't think anyone has ever used this in a actual jet ski race (on a stand up). Or am I wrong? Maybe someone can chime in here.

This was an old freestyle trick when hood tricks were the main game. You get on the hood, hit the holeshot feature, foot pinned on throttle and you still have control for tricks like the “rodeo” Then as rules allowed bigger Motors the Vilder ignition came out that had two curves programed in, you could switch on the fly. One curve was max power, the other was considerably detuned for control.

And yes, i know many racers, myself included that ran the holeshot feature off the line in racing.
I ran Expert Limited & Mod 1&2 on the old Bud tour back in the early 90’s I was on Kawasaki back then.
Ok, im feeling old! Thanks!

I had forgotten about using it for freestyle. I remember rick roy using a reverse water injection system to choke back power bye injecting water into the pipe.

Any thoughts on the reeds they replaced mine with?

I agree wirh Holsot that they will be better overll for longevity.
I look at the off idle a little differant. I feel it will make your off idle crisper
I really dont think you will notice much loss , if any off idle.
They gave you a better product for your purpose.

Woo that is excellent news!!!
Still think Reed spacer would be a good idea? I thought the thicker flange of the vf3s was supposed to act as a spacer.

Your looking at the spacing wrong. The manifold needs to be spaced back pulling the reed blocks with it.
The thicker flange moves the reed tips closer to the crank.

Thats easy, Boysene Pro Reeds. Direct bolt on 62t oem cages Very strong and withstand frequent water injestions,
Very good consistant performance, with minimal fade over time.

Another option that I have been doing for years is fitting Kawasaki 750 cages to work on 62t manifolds
Run same Boysene pro reeds (K750 fitment) these have slightly larger cage area, allowing more flow than Yam, and a better angle of attack into case. Can be modified easily with a dremmel tool.
I think I have a set in a box someplace? Let me see if I can find them and post pics?
thanks for solving my mystery!

my XS engine has a kaw reeds and cages...couldnt figure out what my spare set of T reeds was different

thanks Paul!
