Super Jet Vinyl Wraps

I'm looking in to wrapping a ski instead of paint . As far as I can tell there is no standard. Some installers say yea some say no . Some say this material ,some say that material . Some say 300 bucks some say 1,500 .

Pros for wrap: Less hull prep work , no spider cracks , can change easer (when you are tired of it) , unlimited schemes

Cons : May cost a ton more , adhesion , fading

Give me some input if you know first hand .

Tears and can peel at edges, especially if it comes in contact with sand. I like it and dont like it at the same time. every item has its benefits. We just did our second ski here with it. If you are looking for a year or two for about 450 then go for it. Im still partial to gel coat, but I will most likely paint aftermarket stuff

The only wrap i have dealt with is the one on are air boat, we have had it for 2 years now(380hrs on the boat) and it still looks like new, but it pretty thick stuff...idk if it would be the same stuff for a SJ. One of the selling point was it didn't fade as fast as paint and so far that's held true.

Vinyl has uv protection and can last a long time when installed and maintained well. I am still into one color paint no big tricky decals for me.

I ride with this guy that has a wrap on his 03 SJ that was blue out of the factory. His has been on there for a couple years I think and it still looks brand new. Under the wrap his paint is chipped to hell and back and beat up, but you cant tell it a bit with the wrap on it b/c the vinyl's so thick on the wraps, so im assuming he didnt do any prep work before putting thr wrap on. I just dont like how it doesnt cover the bottom of the handpole and the top of the hood so you can still see his original blue which looks kinda weird, but guess you could just paint that too.

I work at a vinyl shop and im working on wrapping my ski. Ive been putting test cuts on all my friends ski's all summer and all have held up. It's all about how you put it on and your prep work. If you do that right then you shouldnt have a problem with it.

Some guy wrapped his whole car for under $200. I think he was getting vinyl at dealer cost of something though.
It turned out pretty awesome for a car. I would assume it would hold up find on a ski's top deck but id be a bit leery of how it will hold up to frequent beaching.

I read into it a while back and the main issue is finding a vinyl that will last and not break the bank. 3M makes a variety of grades ranging from cheap nearly disposable stuff to stuff that lasts 7+ years

I had my ski wrapped 3 years ago and it still looks perfect. It has a special laminate on top of the wrap to protect it. I have hit this and it gouged the wrap and not the ski because the various layers are so thick. Definitely worth it IMO.

lasted a year for me curves and the hood were a problem

I do vinyl graphics for work, so obviously I'd prefer doing a wrap on my ski as opposed to paint. Reason being, you can get much more detail in the printed wrap than a paint job, wraps can easily be peeled and replaced when its time for a new look, and scratches aren't as noticable on vinyl as opposed to paint/ clear coat. The only disadvantages is that most vinyl wrap installers only have experience with cars, which are muuuuuuch easier to wrap than a ski, and the cost.

I have my own Vinyl Graphics business and I have also been testing vinyl wraps on jet skis and have noticed that they do hold up very well if the ski is prepped correctly and also using 3M edge sealer on all the edges so that the water pressure does not lift up edges and rip the wrap right off the ski, for those riders going big the the Surf. I am working on building a SN SJ which i plan on wrapping. I also Wrapped a X2 which have a crap ton of curves.. I will post pictures once i get back into town. I Agree with Little D the attention to detail and protection to your ski is the greatest Advantages..

X2 Pics

Here are the pics of the X2 I promised.. I used calendered vinyl on this ski which I would not recommend on doing.. what ever wrap you get make sure that you get Cast Vinyl. Calendered will eventually lift and create air bubbles, but this wrap was just a quick wrap to get our name out there..

Kevin you see what Kenny did there on his wrap, do anything but that and you will be golden , for some reason everytime I see that ski I swear I can hear a train whistle in the background.

Ok ..... it's been on the tip of my tongue . Thats where I have seen that art work ............. Box cars . I think it looks good , at least better than some I've seen.
