if you can get that crank for 195 thats a great price and then you will know you have a good engine .. new gaskets and seals and a fresh top end whould last for a VERY long time ..

yes Vumad is right you can make a mistake spinning an engine with teh head on .. but i still think you can get a pretty good idea ..

I have a engine here i thought wasnt perfect but stilll not too bad .. well becuse the compreson was low due to an overheat I bought a top end for it .,, dirt cheap with pistons .. took the cylinder of and pistons wow now we can see teh crank is NOT good enough .. this engine was supposed to go into a ski we are selling .. no way we would do that .. so now we have a crappy botton mend . but the top end was so cheap ( 650 yamaha .) the engibe wsbought for a good crank doner on a 701 so a buddy gave me teh top end for 50 bucks including a head and base gasket .. damn i may run it till it grenades in a cottage ski .. it will kind of be like an experiment too see how long it could last LOL .. but yea a perfect example how with the head on all buttoned up spinning an engine over by hand you may miss something .. but usually there are red flags ( and this one had plenty ) yes sometoime buyng a used engine is rolling teh dice .. but if its cheap enouh it is sometimes worth the risk ..

the webs are the circles on the left. they're in both pictures even the picture from the page with out webs. If your webs are in good shape i would think you could reuse them, but im not sure. SBT is reliable i guess, ive never gotten anything from them but they've been around for forever. pretty sure that the biggest problem with sbt is their bearings. the 195 means you have to send them your crank so you have shipping there and shipping back. you can fit a 650 crank in a flat rate box and ship it for about $18 dollars (i did this earlier this year) my guess is that they may kill you on return shipping so that 195 really becomes more like 240 or 250.

Who rebuilt your crank? I would pay up to around $300 to have it done right so I know its done right. I just need to know who and where and how fast they can do it. The biggest thing for me is finding someone that I trust. I have always worked on my own stuff so that I know its done right and I know it was done to last, not just thrown back together. But in this case, with time and my lack of knowledge of these motors im looking for something else.

Im still leaning towards a rebuild just because I feel more confident about it. I found a crank with all bearings and rods on a website for $195? Thats cheaper than I can buy a rebuild kit for. Is it worth it?

Now I will have to have the seals and little odds and ends that I broke due to my lack of knowledge of these motors, but that seems like a deal to me and is reasonably priced.

Now heres the other option, Atlantic Jet Sports has a rebuild kit for $185 but it does not include webs. Im not sure what the webs do or if they will need to be replaced. Any info on the webs? The kit with the webs included is $285. To me, the $195 for the complete crank is still a better deal.

Any opinions? Is SBT a reliable website?

I don't understand why you would buy this over something else. Rebuilt is rebuilt unless the bearings are something special compared to SBT? I haven't had any SBT motors but they have to be doing something right.
