Hey guys, I'm currently in an senior year engineering design class and I have to design and produce a product as our full year project.
One of my more prominent ideas is to design a new type of flame arrestor/airbox design that will prevent water ingestion during normal riding from splashes in the engine bay and from ingestion upon a turnover event, where water pours into the carb when a ski is upside down and away from you. This product may also have the potential to stop engine runaways on land.

Over my few years of surfriding, I have ended up in a few sketchy events where my engine would not start after a turnover due to water ingestion and I remained stuck in a large set, hammered in the white water. My design will hopefully prevent issues like this and other types of ingestion.

This project is only in the research stage so bear with me. We are currently conducting market research and would love to hear what you guys think!

How do you stop runaway? Is there be a damper to stop air flow?
My group is only conducting market research at the moment to justify a problem, no designs are made but yes that is one of the potential solutions.

Something that doesn't utilize the stock airbox would be nice.
That's what we are going for.. attempting to get away from that design at least!

Thanks for all the votes so far!

I run a stock airbox on my superjet and a custom modified xl760 44s stock airbox on my x2 with tons of water inteusion but no water ingestion. I have tai ceti on my b1 and had them on my sxr. I dont have a desire to have anything but stock on my superjet or x2. I see experienced riders with large resources at their disposal riding stock boxes because they are the best. Seeing tai ceti wrapped in turf or some other rigging in the surf is silly.

Design a filter adapter that uses low profile tai ceti filters with a click on (or 2 quick screws) oem style surf splash guard that doesnt block flow to a point that it would cause an excessively rich condition in surf mode. Wide open on the course, guarded in the surf.

Be sure to send me a copy for design kdea gratitude.
