Waterbox repair???

my alum RN oem waterbox sounds like it has a broken baffle rattling around inside... is it possible to cut it open and have it rewelded fairly easily?? has anyone done this before? isnt easy finding a used waterbox....looking for a cheapfix

yea you can...but you need to be able to weld aluminum

Loki customs over here in the UK cuts them open and mods them so yes you can. I think he just drills holes in the baffle plates.

Be careful if you cut it open. There are tubes that stick out of the baffle inside that you will cut if your not careful.

I blew the top off of mine the other day. Dont some guys just wrap them with glass and epoxy?how long will a repair like that last?

McDog... which side of the weld bead did u cut?? it looks like theres a plate right in the middle.. or did u get right in the center of bead?

I cut just off the bead on the exit side.

so looks like same thing happened to me as you... do i need to get baffle welded back in or am i good to go?? anything i should mod to this before i get it welded back up?

i thought stock water box's were fiberglass?

Yes it needs to be welded back in place. Sn boxes are fiberglass, rn boxes are aluminum.
