I don't think a stock length SJ can carve decently without tubbies, so IMHO that's more of a factor than a short hull.
I can carve just fine, but my hull has Tubbies II. Since shortening it, I've noticed that the back end likes to slide out sooner than before.
So to truly carve and stay hooked up, I need to put weight on the back more than before.
