Watercraft Factory Weigh-In

Had a little free time this morning and loaded up my hull to be weighed by a friend of mine. He originally was going to use a scale he had in his garage that is similar to a large shipping scale, but when I pulled up he had me drive up behind his new boom truck and weighed it using a Fairbanks set-up. Thought you guys might get a kick out of this photo.

The hull weight came in at 97.1 pounds without hood or nosepiece.

The hull, hood, and nosepiece weighed 113.7 pounds.

Steve thought that it would come in slightly lighter based on his guesstamite (he never had a chance to weigh it) but I am perfectly happy with the results because I know that it is solid, which is what I told him I wanted. When I ordered it, I told him that the weight wasn't as much of a factor for me, that I didn't need a Pancake Pete proof hull, and that I just wanted a solid ski that was lighter than OEM and stronger than OEM.

Thanks again, Steve.

I'll update this thread with a total weight when I have the ski completed---which might be a little while... :sneaky:

My stock reinforced 06 hull, that had never seen the water came in at 118 pounds on a digital bathroom scale, so that hull about 21 pounds lighter, and 10x stronger.:woot:

The hull, hood, and nosepiece weighed 113.7 pounds.

I asked for the pancake pete version hood, with four hood holds, and after primer, paint and graphics, it came in at 18lbs on the same scale.

that there is a great looking ski Chic....:cool2:

 That could have easily been a couple pounds lighter with a PVC exhaust. :haha:

On a serious note, I see most flat water boys turf the rails and use hydro turf to widen them, what does a sheet of hydro turf actually weight?

Has anybody actually weighed the turf they have taken off a ski?

5 lbs?:dunno:

Steve and I came to the conclusion that Charlie used an excessive amount of contact cement and foam that therefore increased the weight of my hull substantially. :haha:

The hull weight came in at 97.1 pounds without hood or nosepiece.

The hull, hood, and nosepiece weighed 113.7 pounds.

I heavily reinforced my squarenose when I built it and it tipped the scales at 155lbs w/ hood and turf. Plus you are putting a stout motor in there so that really helps dissolve the feeling of weight. Jeff from WD was telling me that even elaborate paint jobs can add between 5-10lbs across the entire boat and if your goal is to make a light boat a single stage paint is the best choice as it can save a few pounds.

wow!

so with padding, glue, turfed rails, turfed this and that, its safe to say that theres close to 10lbs of rubber on a typical freestyle boat.

im going to turf my ski like the one in daytona. 1 piece that went from the rear and into the footholds and thats it.

then ill be pulling more rolls than rosie o'donnell when shes wiping.

Yeah all that turf is for sissies.. Just keep your feet locked in the footholds and you will never use all that uncovered area. Turf? We don't need no stinking turf!
