Wave raider deluxe donner to SJ650?

Hi guys, I bought, fixed up and ran a stock (93) SJ650 over summer and had a total blast on it, but towards the end I thought it was lacking a little power. It's in pretty rough shape, so I'll be stripping the whole thing down to rebuild it and revamp the hull.

A Wave raider deluxe came up for sale just around the corner from me super cheap, it needs some engine work (broken conrod) but I jumped on it with the intension of Frankensteining the 62T engine in.

I'm looking for a little advice on what to do/not to do. What I'll need to salvage from the 6m6 engine and what additional parts I'll need for the new one to make it work.

I also noticed the Wave Raider also has trim adjust, would it be possible to switch that onto the Superjet? I feel like that could add come fun.

You can use your good crank from the 650 with the 62t engine. I would also shave your head and get yourself an SJ 2008+ impeller, hooker 9/15, or skat 9/17, Look up CATS trim to see how to make the trim work on the SJ.

Great, thanks for the advice. I'll be keeping my eye out for an impeller. Will the old exhaust system switch over ok?

I just have the stock 650 exhaust at the moment. There's a stock 700 superjet exhaust on ebay going cheap right now, but I don't know if it's any different to the 650. The raider exhaust looks too big to fit at a glance.

Raider exh will not fit. Just so you know, you have a 62T 701 in the raider. This is my favorite 701, and makes an excellent upgrade in a Super Jet. Everything will swap over except the exh pipe. Open the e-box and eliminate any extra wires on the harness for the raider gauge, etc. You only need the start/stop wires, and stator coil harness.

Your 650 exh has smaller runners on the exh manifold, and is not really correct on a 701.

You need a 701 Stock SJ type exh, or aftermarket Fact Pipe, etc. You will need to port match the manifold to your cyls as the 62t 701 has taller exhaust ports, and will not line up properly. You can use a 62T exh gasket as a templet on your 61x manifold.

The 62t cyl has 10mm mount bolts for the exhaust, You then will need to either drill the manifold for this, or put thread inserts in your cly to change out to 8mm threads.

Excellent, thank you for the info. I'll pick up the 701 stock exhaust I found and drill out the bolt holes and port it out a bit.

I was under the impression the deluxe was only 1995 and 62t cyl. Atleast the deluxe I bought was full 62t. I second the notion to just put helicoils in the cylinder, why would you drill them when they come drilled and tapped ready for m8 helicoils from the factory? I did chase the threads with a tap beforehand though every time I’ve done it to be sure there’s no junk in there.

The conrod didn’t take anything out when it let loose?

Like quinc said get a prop, if it’s still got the stock aluminum one it’s a night and day difference even with the 650 motor

Thanks for the advice. I'll chuck in some helicoils. The conrod broke on the crankshaft side so wouldn't have been thrashing about, I haven't had a good look yet, but I don't think it's done any other damage. I'll do a complete rebuild, so will have a good look when I pull it all apart.
