well i think you should try a different codec, something about it just makes it look old school. i would consider it worth the wait. just my 2c :)

Are you sure it's not the Motley Crue? Any suggestions on what you mean about a different codec? I have tried a lot of different options...I think part of the problem is we always ride on cloudy ********ty days (to get the waves).

Chris's stuff looks amazing online. His video screen is smaller, so I think that helps him put out clearer vids without people having to wait too long for them to load up. (Although I am sure there is more to it than that...I am not well versed in this stuff) I am gonna do an experiment tonight....

Trust me...the stuff looks 1000 times better on my computer in AVI than it does online.

No, it'll never look as good as the Nascency stuff. Chris is a pro. I am just a rider who screws around with his camera while I'm resting on the beach...I would rather put the $ into a new hull than a good camera that I'll break in a week. (I put my cameras in my backpack while I ride) I am on camera #9 right now...$35 ebay specials for me!

Let's cut DJ a little slack here. Comparing his stuff to Chris N. is just wrong. Chris has a HD video camera that costs like 100 times what DJ uses. Chris uses a tripod which helps a lot too.

A lot of the parts of the video it's not a perfect, clear sunny day. That kills the quality. There is no "make it a sunny day button" in video editing. If you start with crap it stays crap. The sunny scenes look much better than the the others.

He wants to record his friends having a good time. That way they can share it with their friends. Probably using stuff that would "end up on the cutting room floor" otherwise.

It's better to have this great action recorded at any quality than not at all. A lot of great action in Daytona last January and it's only in people's memories.

The thing with Zach Waddle lately. He was an up and coming rockstar in the surf. Every minute of him riding should be on video.

This type of video with all the water movement is the worst possible thing to make into an internet video. It's just the way video works.

DJ is putting these videos on my website. I just gave DJ some more options so he can do the videos in a smaller screen size which might look a little crisper and work better for those who don't have awesome internet connections.

The settings he is using for this video to try to make up for the limitations of web video require an awesome internet connection.

Video starts with good light bouncing off something and going through the lens to the sensor in the camera. Bad light, cheap lens and sensor on the cheap camcorder all multiply together to reduce quality. Not using a tripod makes it shaky. For not using a tripod and being zoomed out it's pretty good.

DJ,
Did I say tripod enough times for you to get the hint? They are like 25 bucks for a cheap one which is better than nothing.

Time to get off my soapbox and go out riding.
