650/X-2 wavejammer cooked in Windsor

kept fouling out plugs after 30 min, then died on the weekend with a rattle (uh-oh!) found little pieces of metal in exhaust manifold, was told that 650 can be easily switched to 701 by someone, then someoone else said no one will exchange a 650 for a 701 and that you have to change the needles in the carb and the prop set-up, does anyone know of a good jetski mechanic in the windsor ontario area who doesn't charge an arm and a leg? Doesn't look too difficult to work on but as usual time is short, and I know a bit about working on cars but this is a different ball game.

if it is a true wavejammer, it is a yamaha (not a 650/x-2 like this section, those are kawasaki)
it also has a 500 cc motor which does not interchange with anything
the pump is TINY and does not allow for motor upgrades
virtually no one traffics in the 500 stuff anymore
Good Luck and Welcome ot the X!

Actually a 650 or 701 will direct bolt into a wavejammer with a set of LX bedplates, the pump is tiny but it worked in the LX. You would of course need the engine and entire electrical box for that swap plus an impeller.

Never buy anything from Yamaha that ends in lll, that means they didn't get it right the first two times.

Waverunner LX - original wr 500 body, with a 650 engine. The bedplates mate the newer twin motors to the old style motor mount spacing used in wavejammers and wr500s . I seem to remember the WJ and WR500 couplers being smaller diameter, too.

first I have heard of this, I was always told that upfitting a WR500/Jammer
was a custom deal. there is a jammer at the shop just sitting in the corner
where can one find a set of LX bedplates?

I built one of those once. I got the LX bed plates and the coupler that mounts on the 500 midshaft but has the normal size 3 prong standard 650/701 coupler. Thats all you need.
Those only have 130mm pumps so when you put a 650 in that hull, you need a taller prop as the 650 will spin it off the bottom, but then gets going. Those waverunner 500 hulls are big spoons. Get going full blast and then slide it and it will slide forever.

A stock 701 superjet engine will bolt in with the use of a 650lx coupler. Just find a place for the E-box and heat/expand the exhaust hose to fit. BTW the pump wont hold a 701 below the rev limit.
