Wb800 freeride ski?

Hi all I'm all new to this and the more I ride the more I want to go towards a sit down free ride ski is this possible with a wb 800 not full on but a good ski for the waves any thoughts before I start mods greatly appreciated

it s not the best for the surf. It has a very deep hull and is heavy. Same what carbonx2 said, leave the motor stock the 66E, 785 cc motor does not like to be messed with. I sold mine as i rode my wave blaster 2 more in the surf than the wave blaster 3. If i were you i would buy a wave blaster 2 put a little money into it and it would be cheaper and better than the wave blaster 3.

I know this is an old thread. I've seen discussions about the WB800 elsewhere on this forum too. I've owned this jet ski for 5 years now. It’s an amazing machine, perfect for the track and for fun. I’ve completely rebuilt the engine, and it runs flawlessly. It has a high-compression head done by Harry Klemm, stock carburetors set up by John from JetskiSolutions, stock F/A, a Solas YB-SC-K 15/19 pitch impeller, and a Pro-Tec intake grate.

  • Would it be worth considering a swap to a GP1200 engine with a 16/21 impeller? The GP800R theoretically has similar power to the GP1200, although I could still further modify the GP1200. I just don’t know how much of a difference there would be in acceleration feel.
  • Do you know if the stock ride plate is good, or have you used other options? I couldn’t find anyone making aftermarket ride plates for this model.

A stock 1200 only gets you 10 more HP and a bunch more weight IMO not worth it , maybe a Kawi 1100 conversion as you can get more power out of the Kawi setup fairly cheaply with different carbs and drying out the exhaust , don't get me wrong the 1200 engine is one of my favorite engines and it will bolt in directly into anything that has an 800 in it , , throttle and choke cables all hook up and work you just have to monkey with the exhaust rubber piece in the back a bit to make it fit , just don't expect it to be any faster.

Thanks for the response. My doubts actually came from the similar power output, though it's not just about power alone. The GP1200, lacking Nikasil plating, is a bit easier to port, and I feel like there’s a lot more potential to unlock from that engine. But when I consider that my current engine can successfully drive a 15/19 pitch impeller, moving up to a 16/23 pitch would, of course, be a big leap, but I’m not sure if it’s worth the investment. When I rode the WaveRaider 1100, it seemed to have a stronger kick than the WB800, though that could also be due to the shape of the hull. It would be great if someone could share their experiences with the WB800, especially comparing the PV800 engine to the NPV1200.

Honestly I had a GP800 that I got with a stuck engine, I also had a good XL1200 engine laying around, I put the two together , same impeller , it pulled almost exactly the same and it didn't hit the rev limiter so I know it wasn't running out of impeller , this is how I know everything hooks up and works from one ski to another .

That WB800 won't be much different because like the WB ll it is nose heavy and the nose bites and turns , adding a 1200 is only going to add more weight to nose of the ski making it even worse .

If I understand correctly, you had a GP800R, meaning the GP800 with the PV800 engine, and swapped in the NPV1200. However, the GP800R originally came with a 155 mm pump, while the WB800 has a 144 mm pump.

Yeah Yamaha screwed up when they did that , I wouldn't even think about putting any more motor in front of that pump but they do it on Waveblasster 1 conversions all the time , I suppose it works with the correct impeller. But keep in mind the WB1 is a much smaller and much lighter ski than a WBlll .

1200 will make it plow more water with the extra weight. Put a set of 48 carbs on, really wakes ski up. Make a new steeper baffle cone for the exhaust, 20-24 degrees, pipe rpm will match porting rpm better. Install 148mm Solas pump for better hookup. On my race ski I used to have alu strips bolted to the underside of the plate, helped lift ski for less drag and acted as mini sponsons when turning.
