WC head domes spin upon plug removal

I've got a 650x2 with westcoast head and can't get the plugs out as the domes spin, thought about butchering it and cutting a notch to put a flat head in and prevent them from spinning but there must be an easyer method without making them look like dirt and demolishing resale value

Thanks for any input

Pull the head off at home, get the plugs out. Clean head threads and replace plugs and O-rings. Use some Teflon or a drop of anti-seize on your new plugs if this is a recurring problem. New O-rings, and gaskets along with proper head torque should take care of it.

Don't use Anti-seize with newer plugs/engines. Multiple reasons including over torque and added resistance.

Good luck finding the correct oem westcoast head gasket and o rings and having them ship fast. I would use penetrating fluid then a small amount of heat on the dome and try backing them out fast with an electric 3/8 impact so the plug backs out before the dome spins

Don't overheat because there is a small o ring sealing the top of the dome and a large o ring sealing the bottom. Yellow butane torch and evenly heat it

ok thanks! ill give it a try, they are not corroded from salt its a lake rat, I knew there were orings in there just seems stupid to remove head when you have good clean threads, if I pull it off I think I will get a head with no domes to bolt on.... thanks again will try some light heat was going to try impact but its an X2 so I could not do that on rear, I tried going as quick as I could with ratchet as that worked before

ya I defiantly was not going to get a torch in there... lol, yah I will take that time to get my yami powered jet out on the lake before I do that biz, but thanks much for the input! I just want to get this thing running so I can put it on CL, I am an auto tech and it is really irritating that I need to pull the head or engine to remove a plug on a head and engine that is in good running cond.

I'm not sure if this would help, and it may be a bad idea, but maybe you could torque the crap out of your headbolts and get the head tight enough that the domes won't spin? Afterwards you would have to loosen them all up and re torque but maybe that would work.

Ok makes sence i will pull it noticed one of the rear studs sheared off and that was the dome that would spin easily, but I will say I got plug out easy I just cranked it over while turning and compression pushed dome up so it would not spin! Do I need special wc o rings? Or can I get ones from my hardware I have in the shop that match?

Don't Ask if stock
Gaskets work on west coast heads over on PWCtoday....apparently that is a sin!

They are clearly different.

A few of the water holes don't line up, & the westcoast has more holes. WC has the o rings seal to the cylinders. Stock gasket has a smaller cyl opening so the o rings on the westcoast head would be in the crush groove.

You can run whatever you want but I'll stick to my oem stash

Nobody said they weren't different , Just said they work. Some people in here have been using stock 650 gaskets with westcoast heads before you could look up on the internet to find out that there was actually a specific gasket for the westcoast head. Before forums the only thing we had was called news groups , it was done through your email provider. I ran the first TPE650 with 200psi on a stock gasket on pump gas for 4 or 5 seasons till the cylinder cracked from total beatings.

I put new footholds on the FS Aquabot you flipped in Daytona , I think it needs another flippin at wavedaze.

Tpe 650 kawasaki ? Cool.

No one was doubting your experiences here. I would have tagged you and said something stupid! I have 3 of these heads running on my Kawi's. Maybe ill try a stock gasket out if I can't get anymore of the originals.

I hope good surf falls on the weekend. Trying to make that trip happen. See you down there @WB1994
