Custom/Hybrid WDK ROK-R Build

First let me start by saying I'm not new to the watercraft world, but I am new to flatwater freestyle. Riding and building this ski will definitely be a learning experience for me and I'm sure I will have some hurdles ahead of me and plenty of questions. That being said I look forward to the challenge and hopefully bringing some interest in the sport here in Northern Utah.

I just bought a used ROK-R hull and I have to say I'm impressed with the build quality. The fit and finish is very nice. I was told the hull is a Carbon/Glass hybrid and at first glance it is mostly glass with what appears to be one layer of Carbon reinforcement on both the hull and hood. I got the ski on the scale and it weighed in at 90 pounds with hull, hood, pole bracket, hood latches, some plumbing, footholds and turf. In all honesty this was a heavier than I expected, but hey life moves on.

For now the plan is to run a 781 6mm stroker, TL and Buckshot 46mm carbs. Pump with be a Solas 12 vein, but I'm not dead set on any one set-up. I probably wont get into the build for a little bit, but I just wanted to get the thread started.

It doesn't seem like there is a ton of info out the on these hulls, so I want to be as public with this as possible. Feel free to ask me any questions you might have about it.

Yes the hull without the hood is 79 pounds.

It will be interesting to get it on the water and see what the hull is all about. It could go either way. Hopefully I can use this thread to help answer everybodies questions about the ROK-R.

There is no easy way to do that. That hull doesn't have a bulkhead and is open all the way to the back.

I agree, not sure there is any decent way to go about foam. My local riding spot is fairly shallow, flat and close to shore. Hopefully it doesn't find its way to the bottom

could you stuff something back there? some sort of foam? and maybe if he's running an rrp pole, put pieces of pool noodles in there?

Buddy of mine found bunch of pieces of closed cell foam off of amazon for cheap u could stuff back there

jeff says there is no way to put enough foam or floatation in this hull to keep it afloat. says as long as the hood breather tubes are long, even up side down, the tube openings are above the waterline so it wont take on water that way. wether thats true or not, i really dont want to find out.

That was my impression as well. The rear area just doesn't have enough volume to keep it afloat. And if it's going to sink, then I think I'd prefer it to sink straight down without a bunch of bs bobbing around in the water column.

Just a quick pic of the 781 I'll be tossing in the ROK-R. Nothing special, but it's a good place to start while I justify the money on a bigger powerplant.
