okay so now I am ready to try a new web host. had an issue with continual warnings about out of date scripts and problems with WordPress could not get any resolution through their help and I'm looking for new web host

tried to do some internet research but everything seems to be blog's created by people paid mostly to advertise for that host.

anybody have advice?

all I need is a simple small business website nothing fancy. going to set it up myself and use WordPress

I use linode.com. VPS Servers. Never have been down in 3 years since I signed up. You build the web server and retain root access. They provide support but for the most part you set up everything on your own. They have some good tutorials on their site too on how to set up a LAMP server. Good Luck.

If you can stay away from those shared hosting providers.

*edit - Are you actually going to blog? If not I wouldn't use wordpress. Being that it's open source it's had security issues for years. I host all my wordpress sites on another server for that very reason... If you just need a basic product info page and contact page just get some one to build that for you.

Im afraid I dont understand most of the stuff on the linode page, and given time I probably could but today I dont have the luxury.

I looked into bluehost before I posted this thread and it looked good until I saw that it was bought out and there were a lot of negative comments. again their overall history is great but recently things looked to be a little rough. I researched a few others and liked ipage. it seems to have all of the wordpress stuff laid out so its very simple and made me think I could set it up even faster than before. I kept digging into some of the other higher rated hosting companies but again they all seem so polished and slick that I feel sorta like im being conned. thats usually a good sign that something is not right.

thus this post.

I used godaddy originally and switched to something a friend said would save me money. its been fine for years but recently I keep getting this outdated joomla notice and a threat to shut down my site if i dont fix it. from what I can tell joomla is not part of wordpress and seems like a competitor? so how can I fix joomla if its not there to fix? like I said their notice said to contact for support, I did, they didnt. now I get outdated wordpress notice. its updated so what the f? I dont have time or patience to deal with this bs.

looking at my site you can see im not cut out for the job. if anyone knows of a reason not to use ipage or that I should or has a better way to go please speak up. thanks
