wet jet CDI unit 70000-0641

I think it has been a couple years since @WindyCitySki has stopped by and based on how it worked when I tried to tag him I think his screen name might not be active any longer. I believe the wet jet CDI part number at least for all of them that I have seen is 070000-0640 although I see that there is a 0641 listed on e-bay right now that says it is for a wetjet. http://zdenterprises.net/cuyuna-parts-catalog.html used to advertise having a replacement. I know OEM replacements no longer seem to be available and they are very similar to ski-doo and arctic cat snowmobile CDI`s but not necessarily interchangeable. I am in the process of avoiding it all together. I put a magnetic pickup on one of my Cuyuna motors and put a ignitech programmable cdi on it as I noticed that when the timing was setup with less initial advance I had less low RPM response, but gained a bit of speed on the top end. You may also be able to have your failed CDI repaired.

as a electronic tech. i have been studying the 95 seadoo 587 engine electronics. only it uses a magnetic pick up as the wet jet uses the pulse from the mag coil. the seadoo has a 5500 rpm over rev limiter. just like wet jet. and of course they all read rpm's and advance the timing accordingly. so i might try to find the sea doo unit and figure out on how to install a reluctor to excite the unit to fire the plugs. still researching this. first - how and where to position the pickup. i am not in any hurry to figure this out as i have many other projects going on. by the way this engine and pump has been installed in a aluminum boat that was made for a 10 hp engine.

by the way the unit on ebay has not been tested and no warranty and no return. so i will not purchase it and lose 200 bucks.

If your willing to install magnetic pickup it greatly opens your possibilities for CDI units. I made a reluctor that bolts to the front of the flywheel and will allow you to run anything from a $10 gy6 cdi up to a bit more expensive fully programmable CDI. You may also be able to remove the potting from that CDI and fix it, its very common that the capacitors go bad, the other big issue is terrible solder connections. For some reason they seem to have a lot of cold solder joints in these CDI`s. I wouldn`t risk the untested one for $200 either. Way overpriced, but it is one of the only CDI`s that I have seen come up for sale. That being said for that much I think you could get a fully programmable ignitech CDI on there.

Is this the Sno-stuff CDI box that some of them used or a NIppon Denso box , I know Wetjets used both Brut and Cuyuna engines in their skis.

The Seadoo 587-720 does not use a separate pickup for the CDI , the 787 and 951 do but they are DC CDI . To the best of my knowledge, they operate like the Kawi 440-550-650 CDI systems do with a pulse from the stator .

The CDI he is asking about is the cuyuna nippon denso CDI that you can replace with the sno-stuff cdi which is also no longer available. Although I forgot about this thread https://www.x-h2o.com/threads/wetjet-428-l-c-restoration.200990/page-2 which has the PN for a kimpex cdi that will work. The sea doo stator will fit under the ND cuyuna flywheel but the stator is clocked differently and would need a new base plate made to correct the timing. I believe the kawasaki stator will also fit under the Cuyuna ND flywheel, but I only have a cuyuna Kokusan flywheel sitting in the parts pile right now. I have a feeling that you could use a sea doo 580, kawasaki 440-550-650, or even a bunch of different snowmobile CDI`s but I never got around to plotting the ignition advance curves for them so I`m not sure how well they would work

Tested CDI Box for Sea-doo 580 GT / SP / XP 1989 1990 1991 | OEM# 290866599
i have a wet jet engine and jet pump i am installing in a aluminum boat. my CDI is bad. part # 70000-0640 . i bought an early seadoo CDI - new from ebay. and installed it where the old unit was. only had to open up the holes to get the screws to work. i was left with one plug connector- black and red wire. the red wire has to have 12 v to it to work. so i ran an extra wire thru the housing and to my ign switch. runs great now. Sea-doo 580 GT / SP / XP 1989 1990 1991 | OEM# 290866599. hope this help those who are looking for and replacement.

i read where a guy who went by windycityski found and update CDI unit and would like to know from who and where he got this. i understand there are others needing one of these also
