In FL you are also technically suppose a paddle along with your registration PFD and "Mechanical noise maker"

but I like this guys idea for a paddle though I cant claim it for my idea.

I have nowhere to put a fire extinguisher in my 750sx with footholds. I tried mounting it to the inside top of my hood. Now I have 2 big holes where it riped the the damn thing out. So I just risk it now.
yeah I say fug the fire extinguisher if my chit catches fire I'll roll it over and swim away.

Up here in dirty 'ol Michigan I am required to have plpd (personal liability and property damage auto ins) ins on my car. I get nothing if it is my fault but long as i am sober and not negligent i am not responsible for damages. If someone else hits me and wrecks the ski on my trailer i only get $500.

For the ski i rock the lanyard tied onto the bars w/whisle and a laminated reg in my car (if they want to see it that bad they can ride back to my car with me and write up a ticket in the meantime.

As far as all those other requirements, why? FOR a Jet SKI. Not a chance....If anything a TOW Rope should be required, not an extinguisher.

I've only been pulled over once....by the coast guard on lake Michigan. THe waves were hitting huge and they only told me to be careful becuase they were NOT coming after me when i seperated from my ski and got rided out to sea. they didn't even check my gear...but how could they....i could barely make it out of the narrow channel.

Just make sure you know the requirements where you are riding. Some people can get away with dumping bodies at their local lake while some of us get harrassed for jumping wakes too close....or riding wreckless. Lives your life but know the rules. More importantly Know Your Role.

In the 750 place it under the fuel tank strap. It always worked for me that way. There is a place for it seems like.

In Illinois you must have a fire ext. But not for your own vessel, in case it is needed for another. Now that is stuuupid. I argued with the DNR guy about that until I got a ticket. But I have friends in high places I didn't have to pay it... :shhh:

Michigans laws (discuss)

Each person riding on or being towed behind a PWC must wear a U.S. Coast Guard—approved Type I, II, or III PFD. Inflatable PFDs may not be used.

You may not allow a child under 7 years of age to ride on or be towed behind a PWC unless with a parent or guardian or designee of the parent or guardian.

The lanyard of a PWC's ignition safety switch must be attached to the person, clothing, or PFD of the operator.

It is illegal to operate a PWC between one hour before sunset and 8:00 a.m.

PWCs must be operated in a reasonable and prudent manner at all times. It is illegal to:

Jump the wake of another vessel unnecessarily close to the other vessel.
Weave your PWC through congested traffic.
Swerve at the last possible moment to avoid collision.

A PWC must be operated at "slow, no wake speed" if crossing within 150 feet behind another vessel unless the other vessel is also a PWC.

You may not operate a PWC within 200 feet of a Great Lakes shoreline unless traveling at "slow, no wake speed" perpendicular to the shoreline.

It is illegal to harass wildlife or disturb aquatic vegetation with your PWC.

You may not operate a PWC in waters less than 2 feet deep unless you are operating at "slow, no wake speed" or are docking or launching your PWC.
